Welcome home, Juventus!

Now it can be said: “mission accomplished”. Juventus are back in the Champions League. With three League games still to go, the Bianconeri have guaranteed access at least to the preliminary stages, and could even get to second place, which would mean entering the main competition directly.

Juve only needed one point; against Lazio they got all three. The match was already over after just 33 minutes, with four goals scored by Chiellini, Camoranesi, Del Piero and Trezeguet. The final result was 5-2, with Lazio’s Bianchi and Siviglia (later sent off) avoiding an even more humiliating defeat and Chiellini scoring his second goal, just like last year in the celebratory Arezzo game when he got two. This must be another sign of fate.

Ranieri's team's masterpiece is accomplished, a masterpiece begun in August and that could give even more joy up to the 17th of May (the day when the last game against Sampdoria is scheduled), such as the top scorer award, with Trezeguet (19 goals) and Del Piero (18) battling Genoa's Borriello for first place.

Camoranesi: «It was important to begin well»

After the undeserved defeat in Palermo, some critics were about to put Juventus under trial. Why do the Bianconeri come alive only in the second half? Well, in the last four games (all of them won), Ranieri's team have scored as many as 15 goals, 11 of which in the first 45 minutes.

They got two against AC Milan and Parma and four against Atalanta, and as many as five against Lazio. Mauro German Camoranesi was yet again one of the stars of the match: «The game didn't look like an easy one – he remarked in an interview with Juventus Channel – also taking into consideration the heat that is starting to make itself felt. It's important to start off well against opponents who have nothing left to achieve and we managed to do that today. If you start off slowly, you risk having to struggle double the amount. We're pleased about getting into the Champions League, now we'll see about second place, hoping Roma lose a few points, but we'll have to do our part too. I scored five goals in the League? I've kept my average and I'm happy».

Ranieri: «Our motivation was stronger»

He'd asked not to celebrate reaching the Champions League too much. But now that he's achieved the goal, Claudio Ranieri can show his satisfaction, both for the win against Lazio (not considering the second half) and for the objective reached.

These are the Manager's comments to Juventus Channel: «We've played a wonderful tournament and it wasn't easy for us. The group I was trying to create back in the summer came to be; now we're at a good stage in building your home. The lads have done an exceptional thing. Today our motivation was stronger than Lazio's, they don't have a lot left to achieve in this tournament: they're more focused on the Italian Cup semi-final; whereas we wanted to entertain the fans, winning and qualifying for the Champions League. In the second half we weren’t as tight and we let two goals in, and that definitely didn't make me happy».

Juve demand third star on shirts

A legal loophole means Juventus’ next Scudetto could still earn them a third ‘star’ on the jersey, as the club can count it as their 30th.

The Bianconeri were stripped of two titles in the Calciopoli scandal, the 2004-05 and 2005-06 campaigns, after former director general Luciano Moggi was found guilty of attempting to influence referees.

The 2005 edition was left unassigned, but the 2006 title went to Inter, who had finished in third place, as runners-up Milan were also penalised in the Calciopoli trial.

Clubs in Italy place a permanent star on their jersey for every 10 Serie A titles won and at the moment Juventus have two.

Although their next Scudetto will legally be counted as the 28th, the club intends to mark the ‘lost’ seasons by putting on a third star.

“Juventus have won 29 Scudetti and soon the third star will arrive,” President Giovanni Cobolli Gigli was quoted as saying in Tuttosport.

The real news is that legally there is nothing to prevent the Bianconeri from doing this.

“A club can put however many stars it wants on its shirt. There are no rules defining the question and the Lega Calcio does not have it under its jurisdiction,” explained undersecretary for the Lega Calcio, Fabio Santoro.

“Let’s just say this is an ethical question. If Juventus wanted to put the third star when they won another Scudetto, it would be their choice and certainly not a violation of the rules.

“The only thing we would point out is that for the official Lega Calcio history books the Bianconeri have 27 Scudetti right now and not 29.”

Preparation continues for Lazio match

Juventus are continuing their preparation in view of Sunday afternoon's match against Lazio. The trained in the morning again today, beginning with a rather lively warm-up exercise: a tough handball match, in which the Bianconeri had a lot of fun. The session then continued with a series of football matches, first nine-a-side, then ten-a-side, on a smaller pitch. But the size of the pitch was changed in every match.
Ranieri had practically the whole squad at his disposal: apart from injured players Andrade and Iaquinta, only Vanstrattan and Belardi didn't take part in the session and worked in the gym.

Loser Vs Juve

*From Okezone

Nedved gets new deal

Juventus veteran Pavel Nedved is close to signing a new deal with the Turin giants according to reports in Italy.

The midfielder's agent Mino Raiola has reportedly met with the Bianconeri directors at Corso Galileo Ferraris to iron out a one-year extension to his current deal.

The new arrangement would keep the Czech legend at Juventus until June 2009, earning £2.8m for his services next season.

Nedved, who was awarded the Ballon d'Or in 2003, had been expected to retire after a couple of frustrating seasons in Italy.

The former Lazio star has been with La Vecchia Signora since 2001, making 208 appearances and winning, amongst other things, two Scudetti and the Serie B crown.

Juventus have been eager to tie down their veteran stars in recent months, also lengthening the contracts of both Alessandro Del Piero and Gianluigi Buffon.

The Bianconeri have also been boosted by the return from injury of Momo Sissoko, Giorgio Chiellini and Jonathan Zebina ahead of this week's match with Nedved's former employers Lazio.

Mellberg eyes central role

Olof Mellberg believes that he has been signed by Juventus to play as a centre-back, despite spending much of his final season with Aston Villa on the right.

The Swedish defender became the Bianconeri’s first signing for the 2008-09 campaign when he put pen to paper on a three-year deal in January, with his Villa contract expiring this summer.

Although both Zdenek Grygera and Jonathan Zebina have failed to nail down the right-back position this term, Mellberg doesn’t think he will be handed that role.

“I think they have signed me as a centre-half, but also with the knowledge that I can play on the right if necessary,” the 30-year-old exclusively told
Football Italia.

“I started my international career with a lot of matches as a full-back, but I think Juventus know that I enjoy my game the most when I’m playing in the middle.”

Mellberg has spent the past seven years at Villa Park since arriving in the Premier League from Spanish outfit Racing Santander.

He has represented his country on 77 occasions and was named Sweden’s Player of the Year back in 2003.

Squad practically at full ranks

Juventus trained in the morning today, and Ranieri had an almost full squad at his disposal. Buffon, Camoranesi, Del Piero and Trezeguet, who yesterday only trained in the gym, joined the rest of the team today. After some warm-up exercises with the ball, first on the spot and later on a short obstacle course, the Bianconeri worked on the technical and the physical in groups of three. Andrade, who's doing physiotherapy in Lisbon, and Iaquinta, who's recovering from his muscle strain, didn't take part in the today's session, alongside Jess Vanstrattan, who only trained in the gym.

Zampa eyes Amauri-Gattuso swap

Palermo President Maurizio Zamparini has sensationally proposed an Amauri-Gennaro Gattuso exchange with Milan.

The Rosanero have had confirmed negotiations with Juventus over Amauri, but their patron thinks he’d be better elsewhere.

“I don’t want to judge Milan’s transfer policy, but with Kaka and Alexandre Pato, I don’t think Ronaldinho can be a useful signing,” he told Radio Kiss Kiss.

“We are talking about a player of undoubted value whose name excites the fans, but when you focus only on making the supporters happy then you don’t work for the good of the team.

“Perhaps a hitman like Luca Toni, Didier Drogba or Amauri should be a priority for the Rossoneri.”

Zamparini said this week that the only offer he had received was from Juventus, so this was a clear public invite for Milan to join the race.

His interest in the Rossoneri does not limit itself to strikers, as the patron also commented on reports Gattuso is ready to move on.

“We must keep our transfer targets hidden so they do not escape, but I dream of Gattuso in the Rosanero jersey.”

The World Cup winner has been linked with a new challenge at Bayern Munich, Real Madrid or Manchester United, but could be tempted into a surprise switch

Albertini: I'd take Del Piero

FIGC official and former Italy International Demetrio Albertini says he would take Alessandro Del Piero in his Euro 2008 squad.

The 36-year-old is an adviser and close friend to Azzurri boss Roberto Donadoni through his role with the Italian Football Federation.

Albertini also played alongside Don for seven years with Milan and the Nazionale and thinks his old teammate should include Del Piero in his squad for the European Championship.

“I would bring Del Piero along for the Finals but, then again, I am not the Coach,” declared Albertini.

The Juventus talisman has been in devastating form of late, scoring a hat trick against Empoli on Sunday to take his Serie A tally for 2007-07 to 17.

“I am happy for him. He is doing very well, a great season in fact. At this rate, he'll give Donadoni some problems, but he has never closed the door in anyone's face,” ended Albertini.

The Nazionale tactician has been accused of purposely ignoring Del Piero due to a disagreement between the two, an allegation he has strongly denied

Cudicini to deputise Buffon?

Juventus director of football Alessio Secco is reportedly in London to discuss the transfer of Chelsea goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini.

The Bianconeri want a quality stand-in for Italy No 1 Gigi Buffon, who has been suffering with a back problem since the turn of the year.

Juventus' current back-up 'keeper Emanuele Belardi has deputised for the World Cup winner three times this season, failing to keep a clean sheet on each occasion.

Cudicini hasn't played in Italy for nine years since he left Castel Di Sangro in 1999. The 34-year-old played under Juventus boss Claudio Ranieri between 2000 and 2004 when the Tinkerman was in charge of the Blues.

Ranieri gave Cudicini his chance at Stamford Bridge, allowing the former Lazio stopper to establish himself as one of the Premiership's best goalkeepers.

Secco is also believed to be meeting with Mathieu Flamini to discuss a transfer to the Turin giants.

Further to Flamini's signature, the Italian Press have also reported Juventus' interest in a string of Premier League stars, including Xabi Alonso and Emmanuel Adebayor

Juve and Milan trade insults

Juventus' general manager Jean-Claude Blanc has become embroiled in an argument with Milan Vice-President Adriano Galliani.

The Frenchman, who joined La Vecchia Signora in June 2006, reacted to competition from the Diavolo for Arsenal's Mathieu Flamini in a cheeky fashion.

Asked why Flamini would choose the Bianconeri ahead of the Rossoneri, Blanc said: “Juve are in the Champions League and Milan aren't.”

Galliani [pictured] didn't waste any time coming up with a response, sniping: “The Club World Cup champions cannot possibly reply to the newly-promoted Juventus.”

Relations between the two clubs have been cordial since 2006 when the Turin giants were relegated and Milan were penalised for their part in the Calciopoli scandal.

However, Juventus' competitiveness this term has marked the return of a historic antipathy which could spoil the Bianconeri's efforts to sign another of their targets, Genoa striker Marco Borriello, who is currently on loan from Milan.

Stendardo wants Juve stay

Juventus defender Guglielmo Stendardo would like to make his move from Lazio permanent this summer.

The 27-year-old Neapolitan is currently on loan from the Biancocelesti until June, having brokered a deal with the Turin giants in the January transfer window.

“I am very proud that a club like Juventus regard me as a player of their calibre,” Stendardo told Sky Italia TV. “Who wouldn’t like to stay at Juventus?”

The former Napoli stopper has only appeared four times since joining the Bianconeri in the winter, providing cover for the injured Jorge Andrade and the departed Domenico Criscito.

Stendardo is seen as a squad player rather than a first-team regular and recognises that may impact on his future with La Vecchia Signora.

“For now anyway, I live one day at a time, knowing that I will not be able to decide my future, only the club can do that which suits me fine.”

Despite arguments between Lazio Coach Delio Rossi and Stendardo, it is believed that the Aquilotti and their President Claudio Lotito would like to take the former Italy Under-20 international back to Formello.

Stendardo has a contract with Lazio until 2012 and Juventus would have to pay £10m to secure his services. A fee they are unlikely to offer.

Sissoko and Chiellini train with squad again

Juventus restarted training today to prepare Sunday's game against Lazio. After individual technique exercises, the Bianconeri played an eight-a-side match on a smaller pitch; Sissoko and Chiellini joined in, having recovered from their injuries: both are now back training as normal. Buffon, Camoranesi, Del Piero and Trezeguet stayed in the gym, but they'll be back training with the others already from tomorrow. Obviously both Andrade and Iaquinta, who's recovering from his muscle strain, didn't take part in the session. But there's good news regarding the Portuguese defender: he's doing physiotherapy in Lisbon after his second operation and has started running a little bit too. He's expected to be making steady progress in the next few weeks.

Sampdoria–Juventus to be played Saturday May 17

Sampdoria–Juventus, the Bianconeri’s last League match of the season, will be played one day early, on Saturday May 17, the Football League announced today. The League accepted the government's request as on Sunday 18 Pope Benedict XVI will be visiting the city of Genoa.

The League have decreed that all games between teams that have an interest in the outcome of the Sampdoria–Juventus game will need to be played on Saturday 17 too.
All the matches will also have to share the same kick-off time.

No Juventus players suspended. Two suspensions for Lazio

The goal spree in Bergamo has had no disciplinary consequences for Juventus: indeed no Bianconeri have been suspended for next Sunday's game against Lazio. The two players booked in the game, Legrottaglie and Molinaro, simply join the long list of players at risk of suspension if they get another yellow card, which also includes Camoranesi, Grygera, Nocerino, Palladino, Salihamidzic, Stendardo and Trezeguet.

Two Lazio players have been suspended, however: Dabo, who was sent off against Catania for insulting the ref and will be sitting out two games, and Ledesma, who got another yellow card against the Sicilians.

Pope moves Samp-Juve date

Sampdoria-Juventus in the final round of the season could be moved forward to Saturday May 17 because of a visit by the Pope.

The last four rounds of the Serie A campaign are traditionally played simultaneously so no teams can have the advantage of knowing the other results beforehand.

The problem this time is that Pope Benedict XVI will make an official visit to the city of Genoa on May 18.

Due to security concerns and excess traffic in the area, the authorities have agreed to move Sampdoria-Juventus forward to Saturday May 17.

This means that if the result is connected to any of the races for qualification into the Champions League or UEFA Cup, then those other teams affected must also bring their games forward.

An even bigger situation could occur in Week 37, as if Fiorentina reach the UEFA Cup Final then their game with Parma must be played a day early so they can better prepare for the tournament.

Again, if this result is connected to any races – and it is extremely likely it will affect both the Champions League and relegation battles – then all those games would also have to be played on Saturday May 10.

At first glance that would include Juventus-Catania, Livorno-Torino, Napoli-Milan, Reggina-Empoli and Udinese-Cagliari, plus possibly Inter-Siena.

Juve close on Amauri

Palermo President Maurizio Zamparini has announced that Juventus' successful bid for Amauri is the only one he has received.

The Rosanero striker is in high demand after a series of scintillating displays this season, attracting the attention of Europe biggest clubs including Arsenal and Real Madrid.

The 27-year-old has been strongly linked with Juventus and Zamparini confirmed the Bianconeri are now discussing personal terms with the player.

“There has only been Juventus. No other clubs have contacted me, neither from Spain nor from England. There is the problem of his passport,” explained Zamparini.

Amauri is Brazilian by birth, but having lived in Italy for seven years and marrying an Italian he is expected to become an Italian citizen in a matter of weeks.

Zamparini also revealed that talks with Juve are progressing well and the Bianconeri are close enough to agreeing a deal to begin contract talks with Amauri's agent.

“The fact remains that talks have already begun with Juve. We have authorised them to speak with the player,” continued the Aquile chief.

“I would like to repeat that Juve are a serious club, like Palermo. They are never irresponsible and always go through the correct channels. We are quite close to finding a solution.”

The British and Italian media had reported that Arsenal had tabled a bid of £17m in an attempt to hijack the transfer of the former Chievo star.

“Arsenal want Amauri? Not one proposal has arrived from the Gunners,” ended Zamparini.

Juventus and Sportfive, here's the future of football

The agreement was announced one month ago and today in Milan Juventus and Sportfive Italy officially presented the commercial alliance that will tie the Club and the Company for fifteen years.
Across this period Sportfive will pay Juventus 75 million Euros, in exchange for exclusive naming rights on the new Stadium.

Sportfive, who already have several naming right projects, especially in Germany, for instance in Hamburg, Dortmund and Frankfurt, will pick Juventus' new Stadium's title sponsor name, to be applied from the 2011/12 season, when construction work will end. «This is an absolutely innovative partnership project – Juventus Jean–Claude Blanc M.D. declared – confirming our intention of promoting a new and completely groundbreaking concept of Stadium entertainment».

Apart from handling the naming rights, the agreement also posits that Juventus and Sportfive will cooperate in managing the VIP Hospitality area in the new Stadium, and that they will join forces to organize a yearly football event, using their specific experience: Juventus in top-level football, Sportifive in the marketing of the event. «This long-term agreement with one of the most renowned football brands such as Juventus - remarked Spotifive's Chief Executive Officer Richard Worth – is another significant step for us in terms of fully developing our Company at international level».

Don opens Alex door

Italy boss Roberto Donadoni has confirmed that Alessandro Del Piero still has a chance to make Italy's Euro 2008 squad.

The Juventus veteran is in great form, but wasn't called upon for the Azzurri's last two international friendlies and seemed unlikely to be included in the Nazionale's 23-man list.

However, last Sunday's hat trick against Atalanta may have earned him a chance to travel to Austria and Switzerland this summer.

After all, Del Piero has scored 17 goals in 33 games this season, a record which is yet to be matched by any of his direct rivals for a place.

“I have never said that Alessandro has lost the Azzurri shirt,” explained Donadoni when questioned on the Bianconero's chances.

“No one can blame me for this because there is still a long way to go before the European Championship,” he added.

Experience at international level will be essential with France, Holland and Romania all in their group, so Donadoni could opt against leaving the Juve No 10 at home.

“My ambition is to do well with the Nazionale and to keep my job for a long time,” added the former Livorno tactician.

“This is my main and only target so I am totally focused on it. I have no intentions to leave because what I would like to do is to keep on coaching the Azzurri,” he concluded.

Gigi's Juve report card

Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon has given the Bianconeri eight and a half out of 10 for their performance this season.

The Old Lady are currently third in the League table, 12 points ahead of fifth-placed Milan and five behind Roma and a top-two finish on their return to Serie A.

Juve were relegated for their role in Calciopoli and lost several star players as well as suffering financially, adding to Buffon's satisfaction at the Bianconeri's current position.

“I'd give us eight and a half out of 10. Not one of us expected to arrive in the Champions League so soon and in such a decisive manner.

“I am also perplexed, as, I am sure, everybody else is,” explained the Italian international 'keeper.

The 30-year-old shot stopper is also holding on to his dream of catching Roma, but admits it is now probably too late to grab a second spot from the Giallorossi.

“To hope doesn't cost anything, but the distance makes me think that we'll probably end up in third,” he concluded.

There are still 12 points up for grabs from the final four games of the Serie A season, but Buffon and Co face a tough task if they are to remove Roma's five-point advantage.

Moggi: I was Juve's father

Juventus' disgraced director general Luciano Moggi has explained how he protected the orphaned Turin giants.

The 70-year-old, currently banned from football for five years for his involvement in the Calciopoli scandal, has described his former role at the Bianconeri as parental.

“I looked to defend a business that, in practice, had no parents. Gianni and Umberto Agnelli died and Juventus were left without a father or a mother.”

The Agnelli's were synonymous with La Vecchia Signora and Italian public life as leaders in the nation's industry and politics.

“We didn't have the funds because shareholders weren't putting money into the club and we didn't have the television on our side. We were a step behind the others,” Moggi lamented.

“RAI was of Roma and we won't speak of who Sky and Mediaset belong to. We had to make do with what we had and look strong even if we weren't.”

Moggi then took to defending his own actions while in control of the club, giving a revealing insight into life at Juventus under the old Triade regime.

“I was arrogant, but it is not a crime. I have never had saintly custodians nor have I ever looked for them, let's just say I was a naive person who grew up.

“When I arrived at a certain level, they began to snipe at me from all angles. I didn't understand why but it made me grow even more,” added Moggi.

The former railway man also launched a veiled attack on today's players, branding them greedy and using their status to force terms on the clubs.

“Players are more cultured now. Alessandro Del Piero more than anyone, but also Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Patrick Vieira and Pavel Nedved would devour books.

“If you don't give them what they ask for, and at times you simply can't, they hit you at the first opportunity. They want to command, but they are employees,” he griped.

“In the management of this psychological aspect, Inter would definitely be bottom of the table,” added Lucky Luciano.

Player Ratings: Atalanta 0-4 Juventus

was all too easy for Juventus as they ran out comfortable winners in Bergamo. Salvatore Landolina shares his view of the player's who were hot and those who were not.

Juventus

Buffon -6.5: The Italian number one was his usual best in goal. He looked comfortable with everything which came his way.

Grygera -6.5: Another solid game by Grygera who is making a name for himself at the Bianconeri. Always focused and he never stopped running.

Legrottaglie -7.0: The stopper showed all his class as well as his ability in the air when he headed his side into the lead within 45 seconds of kick off.

Stendardo -6.5: The versatile defender is proving his worth at the Bianconeri and he did not put a foot wrong in Bergamo. A good display all round by the big man.

Molinaro -6.0: Still has yet to prove himself and perhaps this is why he doesn’t get a regular starting place. Needs to settle down and stop playing like a nervous wreck.

Camoranesi -7.5: Juventus are so much more creative when Camo is in the team. The Italo-Argentine showed all his usual skills and trickery and Atalanta just couldn’t handle him.

Nocerino -6.5: The young midfielder is improving all the time and his performance today reflected this. Always comfortable on the ball and broke up the play as and when required.

Zanetti -7.0: Zanetti was the Old Lady’s unsung hero against Atalanta. His work seems to go unnoticed but he is so effective both on and off the ball.

Nedved -6.5: The midfielder showed flashes of brilliance and was great down the left wing. He was all over the pitch and his work rate was brilliant.

Trezeguet -7.5: The Frenchman is the typical jack-in-the-box striker, you know he’s there but you never quite know when he’s going to come out with a bang. He set up Del Piero’s first and second goal as he swapped roles with Pinturrichio as the assist man.

Del Piero -9.5: They say class is permanent and there is no player in the world who can prove that statement as much as Del Piero at the moment. Scored a brilliant and well deserved hat-trick. He just can’t stop scoring.

Subs: Tiago 5.5, Marchionni 5.5, Palladino 6.0.

Atalanta

Coppola -4.5: A very poor showing by the goalkeeper, every time Juve had a shot it seemed like it would be going in. He made just one good save.

Rivalta -3.5: The stopper was all over the place. He couldn’t handle Del Piero and he could have done better marking Legrottaglie for the first goal.

Carrozzieri -4.5: A school-boy type performance by Carrozzieri. He tried his best but he just wasn’t effective enough.

Manfredini -4.0: Another poor showing, he let himself down with poor passing and he never looked interested in the game.

Bellini -4.5: One of Atalanta’s better players on the day although he didn’t offer much resistance to the Bianconeri rampage.

Ferreira Pinto 5.0: The Brazilian striker only showed himself on rare occasions and his poor shooting never really troubled Buffon. He worked hard around the pitch but he was let down by others.

Tissone 5.0: Was never able to get into the game and he was always second best to Zanetti in the battle for midfield supremacy.

Guarente -4.5: His free kicks were shocking and he wasted several good set pieces with very poor distribution. A game he would rather forget.

Langella -4.0: The player disappeared from the pitch’s radar and he done nothing in the first half. He was subsequently changed at half time. He looked lost in a sea of black and white shirts.

Paolucci -4.5: The striker just wasn’t performing on the day. His shooting was woeful and he was never a threat to Juve’s backline and his side suffered as a result..

Floccari-5.0: Showed the odd touch of class but that was about it as, just like the rest of his team, he never woke up following Juve’s incredible start.

Subs: Padoin 4.0, Marconi 5,0, De Ascentis 4.5

Ranieri: Don must select Alex

Juventus Coach Claudio Ranieri believes Alex Del Piero fully deserves a place in Roberto Donadoni's Italy squad for Euro 2008.

Del Piero has been in outrageous form lately, scoring six in his last three games, including a hat-trick at Atalanta on Sunday.

“I am convinced that Donadoni will call Alex. He is enjoying a great spell at the moment and has been demonstrating his worth for some time.

“But that is only my personal opinion,” added Ranieri. Italy boss Donadoni has only picked the 33-year-old on a handful of occasions since taking over from Marcello Lippi in July 2006.

Del Piero has struck 20 times in 37 matches this season, netting 17 of those goals in Serie A.

But Juve's talisman faces stiff competition for a seat on this summer's plane to Austria and Switzerland from Bayern Munich's Luca Toni and Genoa's Marco Borriello.

Meanwhile, Bianconeri director of sport Alessio Secco is planning for next season with the Italian Press reporting several moves to strengthen Juve's rearguard.

Full-backs in Secco's sights include Catania's Juan Vargas, Lyon's Fabio Grosso, Fiorentina's Manuel Pasqual and, ambitiously, Manchester United's Patrice Evra.

The 26-year-old French international has a contract until June 2009 and talks over a renewal are believed to have come to a halt.

The Red Devils would like to keep the dynamic left-back, but are anxious not to allow Evra to run down his contract and subsequently his value.

It is believed that an offer of around £10m would be enough to end United's indecision and secure his signature.

Giornata 34th Atalanta 0 - 4 Juventus

Grazie Alex...hatrick euy..

Poker of goals earns place among Champions

Less than a step left. One single point to earn in the last four games and Juventus will be in the Champions League. In Bergamo, Ranieri's team took care of Atalanta in the best possible way, winning 4-0 thanks to a Del Piero hat trick and the opening goal by Legrottaglie.

The week dubbed decisive by Ranieri in the end proved to be just that. Three games in eight days (against AC Milan, Parma and Atalanta), nine points, ten goals scored, with as many as seven scored in the first half, proving that those who said Juve only show their real face in the second half were wrong.

On a Sunday dominated by Del Piero (who got another three goals and now has 17 in the League, one less than Trezeguet), the only less-than-brilliant news came from Genoa, where Sampdoria beat Udinese, not allowing the Bianconeri to have mathematical certainty of qualification yet.

But it really is just a matter of time. Juve can close the deal next Sunday in front of their fans, when they face Lazio.

Del Piero: «Close to a great result»

The Champions League with Juventus and getting a call-up for the European Championships: these have been Alessandro Del Piero's seasonal objectives for months. Along the way, with each passing Sunday, and with each goal, the Captain has found another one: the League top scorer award. He's scored 17 so far in the League (his Serie A total is 151!), one less than Trezeguet and two less than Borriello, currently in top position.

Del Piero keeps making the difference, even at 33, keeping all Juve fans very happy indeed: «We're very pleased. Thanks to this win we really are very close to achieving a great result. We're almost there, we only need to keep focused a little longer and it would mean a lot to us, for all that we've done. I'm obviously happy about my own performance, I always work to do the best I can and sometimes I succeed, like today, other times I don’t».

Legrottaglie: «The first goal was important»

Playing in front of his mentor Del Neri, Nicola Legrottaglie achieved a small personal record today: three goals this season with Juventus, one more than he scored in his first season after joining from Chievo.

Three goals, and all of them decisive. Exactly like against Reggina, his decisive opener opened the floodgates for a wide win: «The opening goal allowed us to go one up and when that happens, it becomes easier to play on the counter-attack. The thing that pleases me the most today is that we didn't let any goals in. Even when we were 4-0 up Atalanta's forwards made it tough for us. We can definitely say we're in the Champions League at this point and if Roma lose a few other beats, maybe we can do another miracle. My performance? I don't wish the flu virus on anyone; at the end of the match I was exhausted. I'd never had cramps before».

Donadoni Still Unsure Over Del Piero

aly coach Roberto Donadoni admits that he is still unsure of whether or not he will pick Alessandro Del Piero for Euro 2008.
There has been much speculation and hype regarding Pinturicchio and the possibility of playing in Austria and Switzerland. The Juventus icon has been in stunning form this season and many want to see him go.

Even the Italian press launched a campaign for him to be part of the squad. But it seems as if Donadoni isn’t listening.

“It’s normal for Del Piero to aim for the National team, after all he’s a footballer not a fruit and veg man,” Donadoni told Radio Italia 7 Gold.

“It’s every footballer’s wish to play for the national side, but it’s the journalists who make it such a big problem.

“The league still has not finished and there are still a lot of important games, so I am expecting those who are doing well to continue doing so.”

The coach also had some words regarding the incident involving Francesco Totti and Mario Rizzoli last week.

“Everything can happen in a game, especially between players, refs and coaches.

“I think they should all have respect for each other.”

Del Piero is in with a shout of the Euros but so is Marco Borriello of Genoa. The Grifoni hit man currently leads the top scorers chart in Serie A and is likely to be included for Donadoni’s final 23 man squad. As for Del Piero, only Donadoni holds the answer.

Juve To Visit Melbourne

Melbourne Victory will host Juventus in an exhibition match on May 30 as the Italian giants undergo their Asia-Pacific tour.

Despite the fact that Euro 2008 will be around the corner, Juventus has promised to send a squad that will be close to full-strength.

"Juventus to Italy are like Manchester United to the United Kingdom, they are one of the all-time great clubs in the world," Victory chairman Geoff Lord told reporters.

"They have agreed to play one game in Australia ... there's no AFL football (in Melbourne) that night so we are hopeful it is a major spectacle and a major sporting event for the whole of Melbourne."

Juventus coach Claudio Ranieri said in a press release issued by Melbourne Victory that he was looking forward to the game.

“Melbourne Victory is one of the top teams from the A-League, and I’m definitely looking forward to playing the upcoming match in Melbourne."

“The club also has a large pool of fans in Australia and we are looking forward to meeting our fans there.”

Giovinco 'is the new Zola'

Under-21 starlet Sebastian Giovinco “is the new Gianfranco Zola,” according to his Empoli teammates.

The Juventus-owned creative figure has been spectacular this season and could return to Turin in the summer.

“He has extraordinary quality and always tries to improve. He has everything needed to reach the senior Nazionale,” commented Vittorio Tosto on Radio Kiss Kiss.

Giovinco was told as a youngster that he would not do well in the sport because of his height and he even mocks his 1.64m frame in his celebrations by holding his hand to his head.

“His technique and characteristics allow him to overcome the height gap. He is the new Zola,” smiled Tosto ahead of the crunch relegation dogfight with Cagliari.

“Winning in Sardinia would be very important, but clearly not at all easy. We will try to get a positive result so that we can play our cards until the end of the season.

“I think that upon reaching 38 points a club is 95 per cent safe, so with two wins and two draws we could achieve another season in Serie A.

“This year the fight to avoid relegation is particularly tough and everyone has to battle until the last second of the final game.”

Don gives Del Piero hope

Roberto Donadoni admits Alessandro Del Piero is still in the hunt for a place at Euro 2008. “It’s all to play for.”

The Italy Coach had excluded Del Piero after complaints from the Juventus player that he no longer wanted to be fielded out of position.

It was thought his chances of getting back into the side for the European Championships in June were over, but his blistering recent form led to calls from all sides for a return.

“Del Piero is not a grocer, he is a football player, so it is only normal that someone who plays football always aims for the highest targets,” responded Donadoni on 7 Gold.

“That is true for everyone in this sport and not just him. It is logical and normal that Del Piero should aspire to a Nazionale jersey at Euro 2008 and the same goes for anyone else who has played in my team in these two years.”

This may leave the door open for Alex, but it is also a prompt for all the contenders to keep up the pace in the final five rounds of the Serie A season.

“There are still some tough games to go and everything is still to play for, in every sense,” continued Donadoni.

“I am awaiting responses and consistency from everyone, including those who are already doing well.”

He refused to be drawn on who would win the Scudetto out of contenders Inter and Roma.

“I hope the campaign ends on a high and does not reserve any unfortunate injury surprises, so I can have the best range of options to choose from.”

Vincenzo Iaquinta risks missing out on the European Championships after he was ruled out for three weeks.

Agent: Three bids for Amauri

The agent of Palermo’s star marksman Amauri has announced that two sides in addition to Juventus have already submitted offers for the Brazilian.

The 28-year-old seemed to be on his way to Turin after a successful meeting between Old Lady officials and their Rosanero counterparts earlier in the week.

However, it has emerged that Juve’s offer is just one of three on the table for the Sicilians to weigh up.

“We have already received offers from Liverpool and Real Madrid,” agent Mariano Grimaldi revealed to Terra.

“Additionally, Arsenal have added their name to the list of clubs interested in Amauri.”

The former Chievo man is hoping to obtain an Italian passport within the next month, which will make him an EU player.

This could persuade Arsenal to table a concrete bid as it would quell fears that the uncapped Amauri may be unable to get a work permit.

Criscito puts Genoa over Juve

Azzurrini defender Domenico Criscito has confessed that he would rather stay at Genoa than return to Juventus when his loan deal expires.

Criscito impressed for the Grifone in Serie B and his performances persuaded Juventus to buy his full rights in January.

However, the 21-year-old didn’t look at home in the Bianconeri shirt and fell out of favour with Claudio Ranieri, leading to him being sent back to Genoa on loan.

“I am working to improve in terms of power and I am becoming more ruthless,” he told Secolo XIX.

“In Serie A, strikers are more physical as well as better technically. Zlatan Ibrahimovic, for example, is one of the strikers who has troubled me most.

“Six months on the bench at Juventus certainly helped me to grow on a personal level.

“It was an important chapter. It helped me to develop and understand the way you have to suffer to get to the top.

“But if both sides made the same offer for me, I would go for Genoa.”

Blanc plans frugal future

Juventus director Jean-Claude Blanc has criticised the spendthrift transfer policies of Milan and Inter and has a different plan for the Bianconeri.

The Old Lady are expected to invest heavily in reinforcements this summer, with Palermo hitman Amauri already close to agreeing a switch to Turin.

However, Blanc is determined that the Cadetti champions won’t jeopardise the long-term future of the club by spending recklessly.

“The fans understand that 100km away from Turin there are two very strong and rich clubs,” he said.

“Inter’s Massimo Moratti has lost millions over the last five or six years and Silvio Berlusconi doesn’t have cash flow problems at Milan – if he wants a player, he buys him.

“But we are different. The Juve fans are proud to have a club that don’t operate that way.

“In 20 years’ time when there isn’t a Moratti or a Berlusconi, what will happen to Inter and Milan?

“It’s the same thing with Roman Abramovich at Chelsea. That’s why our models are Manchester United, Arsenal, Real Madrid and Barcelona.”

After a year of exile in Serie B, Juve are back amongst the elite and are set to secure Champions League football for next term.

“However negative the aftermath of Calciopoli was, a year in Serie B was useful," Blanc insisted.

“It helped us to see who we could rely on and who we couldn’t as a club and as a team.

“I am not amazed that we are headed for third place because I was immediately aiming for Champions League qualification and therefore a top-four finish.

“The real challenge was to try and finish closer to first than fourth.

“When I said that it would take five years to rebuild this squad I meant that it would take five years to rebuild to the level of 2006, and that will happen piece by piece.

“But as far as winning again, the hope is that will happen before.

“To do so we need a mixture of champions and youth. Last Friday I met all our youth Coaches and reminded them that our priorities don’t change, we want to create a Ronaldinho rather than buying one.”

Legro: We can conquer Europe

Juventus stopper Nicola Legrottaglie is enjoying a renaissance this term and believes the Old Lady can win next season's Champions League.

Legrottaglie has stepped up to the mark after Jorge Andrade sustained a serious knee injury early in the season and he has exceeded all expectations.

This weekend sees Legro take on former boss Gigi Del Neri, who coached him at Chievo during his five-year stay at the Stadio Bentegodi.

“I owe Del Neri so much,” he told the Juventus Channel.

“He launched my career at the top level and I am grateful, just as I am grateful to Claudio Ranieri who had faith in me during a dark period.”

Legrottaglie’s improvement this term, which he partly attributes to his newfound Christianity, has been such that there are tentative calls for the Bari native to go to Euro 2008.

“I know that I am a long way back in the queue, but it wouldn’t be a bad way to conclude this magnificent year,” he grinned.

“I am hoping it happens, even if it would be very difficult. Today’s Nicola is very different from the Nicola of four or five years ago.

“It’s a shame that I didn’t understand certain things before, as they have changed my life.”

The 31-year-old missed out on Juve’s midweek 3-0 win over Parma due to a virus.

“I watched the game from my sofa at home,” he revealed. “We did well to take advantage of their defensive attitude.

“We always suffer against the smaller sides because they give 120 per cent against Juventus, but we were determined from the start.

“We are having a marvellous season and we could mathematically secure Champions League qualification on Sunday. We deserve the position that we are in.

“Furthermore, I believe that we can immediately win the Champions League. If we reinforce and add players like Amauri then we are on the right track. It would be great to fight at the top level and we will try.”

Swedish international Olof Mellberg is due to arrive in the summer, but Legro doesn’t fear the competition for places.

“I don’t know him, but if we signed him then he must be good,” he stated.

“Am I worried about losing my starting spot? I am a fatalist, so if he is better than me then he will play.

“I started this year as a fifth-choice defender and now look at what has happened
I’m not scared of anything or anyone else.

“Transfer talk doesn’t bother me at all and I will just go about my business as usual.”

Training restarts in Vinovo. Iaquinta out for 20-25 days

Just hours after the important win against Parma, the team restarted training in Vinovo. There's a match to prepare, Sunday afternoon's one in Bergamo against Atalanta.

A game that Vincenzo Iaquinta won't be taking part in: the striker suffered a muscle problem after Tuesday's training, and today underwent an ultrasound scan to his upper left thigh, which showed a first-degree strain to his femoral bicep. The prognosis is he should be available again within 20-25 days.

The other injured players who missed the game against Parma are improving. Zanetti and Zebina carried out the full training session this afternoon under the rain. Sissoko and Legrottaglie are also improving. The French-Malian player trained separately in the gym and then went on the pitch to work with fitness coach Andrea Scanavino. Legrottaglie, who had the flu Tuesday, stayed in the gym all afternoon. Those who played Wednesday night as usual had a lighter training session than the others.

The schedule before the Atalanta game includes two more afternoon training sessions, on Friday and Saturday.

No suspensions for the Bianconeri, Atalanta's Doni suspended

The day after Juventus-Parma, suspensions for the next League round have been divulged. They only concern Parma, in particular Fernando Couto who, due to his sending off and most of all for the punch he gave Chiellini at the end of the first half (which the referee didn't see, but TV footage shows), has received a four-day suspension.

No sanctions were taken against the Bianconeri, as none of the players who set foot on the pitch got booked. No Juve players will be missing Sunday's game in Bergamo for suspension then. However, seven players are at risk of suspension if they get booked: Camoranesi, Grygera, Nocerino, Palladino, Salihamidzic, Stendardo and Trezeguet.

On the other hand, Atalanta will have an important player missing: Cristiano Doni, who still has one day of his suspension to sit out after being sent off in the game against Inter Milan on April 6.

Chiellini delighted with defence

Juventus defender Giorgio Chiellini was proud of the way the Bianconeri defended against Parma yesterday.

While David Trezeguet and Raffaele Palladino received the majority of the plaudits, the Old Lady’s defence barely seemed to break sweat as they contained a lacklustre Ducali side.

“We played well and we deserve a share of the credit for them doing little,” Chiellini told the Juventus Channel.

“The relationship with Guglielmo Stendardo is going well. He had a great game and has integrated well as a part of our mechanism.

“We did the opposite to what we have done all season and put the game to bed in the first half.

“David’s goal took the wind out of their sails and it was all downhill from there.”

Chiellini concluded by discussing his personal dual with Parma striker Bernardo Corradi.

“We are good friends,” he insisted. “On the pitch we tussle and there are blows, but we hug at the end of the game.”

Iaquinta's injury blow

There’s bad news for Juventus striking star Vincenzo Iaquinta as he has been ruled out of action for another three weeks.

The former Udinese hitman was missing for yesterday’s rescheduled Week 31 clash against Parma and played just 12 minutes in last Saturday’s showdown against Milan.

Iaquinta damaged quadriceps last Tuesday in training and scans have revealed that the problem is more serious than initially suspected and will take at least three weeks to fully heal.

With the competition intense for places at Euro 2008, Iaquinta’s injury has come at an inopportune time and could prove costly.

The news means that unsettled forward Raffaele Palladino, who hit a superb goal against Parma, will have a greater chance of commanding a starting spot.

Trez is gunning for Borriello

Juventus hitman David Trezeguet admits that his goal last night was offside, but is focusing on the Capocannoniere crown.

The French international opened the scoring in the Bianconeri’s 3-0 win over Parma yesterday evening when he pounced to tap in after Mauro Camoranesi’s header had hit the post.

The Parma players were furious because goalkeeper Luca Bucci’s howler had left just Daniele Dessena between Trezeguet and the goal – rendering him offside.

“Obviously my goal was offside,” Trez declared on Sky Sport Italia. “But that’s just the way it goes.

“I hope I can continue like this and keep scoring so that I can win the Capocannoniere title, but I will have to see because Marco Borriello is having an extraordinary season at Genoa.”

Trezeguet now trails Borriello by one goal after taking his season’s tally up to 18.

Whether the former Monaco man can repeat this term’s exploits next year remains to be seen, but the likely arrival of Palermo star Amauri could reduce his impact.

“If Amauri arrived there would be no problems,” Trezeguet maintained. “Whoever is added to this squad will receive a warm welcome.

“Amauri is more than a menace to me, he is a superb striker and he would be an asset.”

Palla stays quiet on future

Raffaele Palladino returned to the scoresheet for Juventus last night, but he still refuses to rule out leaving Turin this summer.

Despite penning a contract extension earlier in the year, Palladino has stated his frustration at a lack of regular first-team football this term and admitted that he fears his international career is being compromised.

With Amauri likely to arrive from Palermo at the end of the season there may be still less space next term, prompting suggestions that Palla will go elsewhere.

Last night’s super strike against Parma was a timely reminder of the former Azzurrini star’s abilities, but his future is still up in the air.

“It’s nice to get a goal during a period when I haven’t been playing much,” Palladino stated.

“Am I unsettled? No, but it’s obvious that it is important for a young player to be getting games.

“At the end of the season I will talk to the club, but Juve remain my priority and my objective is to do well here.

“If I do leave, it will be a decision made after discussions with the club and it won’t be a matter of my desire to go.

“If the club have a use for me then I will stay, if not we will see.

“Did I refuse Palermo as part of the Amauri deal? No, I haven’t turned down any destination and haven’t spoken to any other club because I am focused on this season with Juve,” he concluded.

Ranieri hails hungry Juve

Claudio Ranieri was delighted with his Juventus side’s attitude in their 3-0 win over Parma last night.

The Old Lady are on the cusp of Champions League qualification after securing three points in their rescheduled Week 31 clash to move 12 points clear of fifth place.

After last weekend’s 3-2 triumph over Milan, Ranieri had feared that complacency may set in against struggling opposition, but the Roman tactician saw his Juve side power past his former club.

“I am satisfied,” he grinned. “It was important to keep wining and today was a good test of the players’ spirit and motivation.

“After the victory against Milan there was the risk that we could be sated, but instead we reacted with great determination.

“We were without Momo Sissoko and Cristiano Zanetti, so it was important to go in front to stop us suffering in a deadlock.

“If you don’t strike early then you get nervous and things get more difficult.

“Credit to the whole squad. The champions have been great, but so have all the lads who are behind them in the pecking order and keep working hard.

“But I want Champions League football to be mathematically certain before I start giving everyone a game.”

Ranieri also heaped praise upon Argentine winger Mauro Camoranesi, whose header against the bar allowed David Trezeguet to open the scoring.

“Camoranesi? He gives me the chance to vary the way we play,” the Bianconeri boss explained.

“He is a universal player who has such class and is a godsend for me. He is a winger, but he is willing to sacrifice himself wherever needed for the team.

Raffaele Palladino scored a superb goal in a week that has seen speculation regarding his future if Palermo hitman Amauri arrives in Turin.

“Amauri or Palladino? I have seen so many names in the newspapers and I don’t like to talk about these things,” Ranieri said. “I like Palladino and I believe in him.

“It’s up to him to command his place amongst these champions.”

Ranieri Pleased, Cuper Concedes Juve Superioity

Juventus boss Claudio Ranieri was pleased with the win over Parma tonight, while Parma coach Hector Cuper admitted that his side were second best.

Juventus produced a dominant performance as they triumphed 3-0 at the Stadio Olimpico in Turin.

Ranieri Reaction

"It was important to continue like this,” said Ranieri.

“We must try to get as many points as we can until the end of the season. I am satisfied. The guys have done a good game.”

Camoranesi

Mauro Camoranesi had another wonderful match, and was again fielded in the centre of midfield.

"Mauro gives me the opportunity to change, he is a flexible player," the Tinkerman noted.

"Mauro knows how to play in multiple positions and knows how to sacrifice himself."

Palladino

The man-of-the-match tonight was probably Raffaele Palladino, who scored a brilliant goal. However the Neapolitan is expected to be sold at the end of the season.

"I do not like to talk about these things," stated Ranieri.

"Palladino I like a lot, he is a player who we believe in. But we treat him as we treat all the others."

Romario

Finally Ranieri was asked about Brazilian legend Romario, who has recently announced his retirment from football.

"I am sorry, because people like him are players who are good for football. He did some wonderful things, he is a great champion and a great man," the coach concluded.

Cuper Reaction

Parma coach Hector Cuper has conceded that Juventus fully merited their victory, but says that his decision to rest a few key players did not play a part in the result.

"The players who did not play, were absent because they had physical problems," said the Argentine.

"But this is not the reason for the defeat. It was a game to forget, I made my choices, those who played were 100%. It is a difficult time. Let's forget this evening and immediately think of Napoli. I still have confidence, today we have did not do anything, Juventus did everything."

One player who particularly disappointed was Reginaldo, who was fielded in an unusual role behind the lone striker.

"Perhaps he had trouble with the top of the Juve defence, and he also played in a relatively new role," Cuper concluded

Another three steps toward the goal

The week Claudio Ranieri defined as decisive is proving more and more favourable to the Bianconeri. After AC Milan, Juventus overcame Parma too (3-0) and made another decisive step towards qualification for the next Champions League.

In this last match, originally part of Day 31 and scheduled to be played on March 30, but postponed after Matteo Bagnaresi's death, the Bianconeri easily beat the team from Emilia, who were almost never in contention. The game was basically over already in the first half. Trezeguet opened the scoring after 16 minutes from a corner kick situation, and then Palladino scored the second with a great goal after 31 minutes.

The music didn't change in the second half. Nedved and Tiago came on, with the Portuguese player causing Morrone's own goal and making it 3-0. A few seconds later, his fellow countryman Couto (who'd already made a bad tackle on Chiellini at the end of the first half) was sent off for protesting and any chance for Parma to get back into the game was gone.

These are three more precious points for Ranieri's men. They now have 64 points, 7 less than second-placed Roma, but 8 more than Fiorentina and especially 12 more than AC Milan and Sampdoria. With five games to go, qualification for the Champions League is almost mathematically guaranteed: Sunday in Bergamo the chance to finally close the deal.

A nice birthday gift for Palladino

Just hours before his 24th birthday, Raffaele Palladino found the best possible way to make himself a present: a superb performance against Parma and a stunning goal; a deserved award for this lad who’d been a little unlucky lately, but who could now be in for a great season finale.

Before leaving the Olimpico, the Naples-born lad had the chance to express all his joy to Juventus Channel: «I'm happy and satisfied. I come from a difficult period, I kept it all inside and today I was able to release it all. I really wanted to do well, as tomorrow is my birthday. Honestly I didn't think I was this fit, having a player like Molinaro behind me helped me as he did all the running. My goal? There was only David inside the penalty area when I went past Zenoni, so I only focused on shooting and scoring».

Juve are almost on the home stretch; and they will arrive there in some style. After beating AC Milan, they won against Parma too and have left their rivals behind, booking a place in the next Champions League.

Claudio Ranieri has almost accomplished his mission and the Olimpico crowd's cheers for him were well deserved; but he wants to share them with all his lads: «The whole squad must take credit for everything we're achieving. The big stars are doing well, but also the ones who are not first-team regulars and who train conscientiously every day. It went well today because we were able to score twice early on. We risked feeling fulfilled after the win against AC Milan, instead we played with great determination. Palladino? I was sure he'd play a great match and I even told him so before the game».

Chiellini: «All easy after the first goal»

The postponed match turned out to be easy. Juve scored three goals, and Parma were almost never dangerous: all thanks to Juventus' defenders, who were quick to close down the few Parma attacks.

Giorgio Chiellini was once again one of the stars of the match. The Livorno native had this to say about the game in an interview with Juventus Channel: «Today we did the opposite of what we've been doing all season, i.e. we closed the match already in the first half. David's goal was a blow for them and from then on it was easy for us. We did well in keeping the side tight tonight and if they did so little the credit must go to us too. We had a good understanding with Stendardo, he played a great match; he immediately settled into the side and became confident with the way we play. My duel with Corradi? We're good friends, we like knocking each other around but at the end we hug each other».

Juventus 3 - 0 Parma

Trezeguet 16 (J), Palladino 30 (J), Morrone og 77 (J)
Stadio Ferraris

Raffaele Palladino netted a gem in Juventus' 3-0 win over Parma in this rescheduled Week 31 fixture.

This match was called off on March 30 after Parma fan Matteo Bagnaresi was accidentally run over and killed by a bus driven by Juventus supporters.

The Bianconeri fielded Raffaele Palladino out wide and Mauro Camoranesi in a central midfield role, as Cristiano Zanetti was injured, Momo Sissoko and Tiago Mendes rested. The Gialloblu needed a result to break away from the relegation zone and gave Bernardo Corradi a rare start upfront.

In the opening minute Fernando Couto's header skimmed the woodwork, but 120 seconds later Hasan Salihamidzic's diving header from an Alessandro Del Piero free kick was also just wide.

David Trezeguet made the most of a goalkeeping howler to give Juve the lead after 16 minutes. Del Piero's corner kick was whipped in and Luca Bucci missed the ball. Camoranesi's header ricocheted on to the upright and Trezeguet was free to tap in from a yard. However, Parma protested at an offside position, as when Camoranesi got the header there was only one Gialloblu shirt in front of him, Daniele Dessena practically on the line.

Luca Antonini blasted wide on the counter and Gigi Buffon charged down Corradi, but Juventus doubled their advantage on the half-hour mark. It was a fantastic goal from Raffaele Palladino, who flicked it over Zenoni and smashed a powerful right-foot finish into the far corner.

McDonald Mariga drilled over, but the home side were in control and Couto charged down a Zdenek Grygera cross-shot. There was controversy in first half stoppages as Giorgio Chiellini was furious when Couto appeared to punch him on the side of the head, so this could well go to the Disciplinary Commission for video evidence.

Parma got off to a determined start for the second half and Buffon closed down Dessena before Reginaldo's header was off target. Del Piero combined with Trezeguet to fire off target before making way for Pavel Nedved.

Palladino wasted a promising counter and Nedved drilled inches past the post from outside the box.

Stefano Morrone put the result beyond all doubt when he accidentally nodded a Tiago cross into his own net to secure the 3-0 scoreline. Tempers flared and Couto was sent off moments later for dissent, while Dessena limped off injured, adding to Parma's woes.

This result leaves them just one point above the drop zone and with a series of players set to miss out on this weekend's crunch match with Napoli.

Juventus: Buffon; Grygera, Stendardo, Chiellini, Molinaro; Salihamidzic, Camoranesi (Tiago 66), Nocerino, Palladino (Marchionni 80); Trezeguet, Del Piero (Nedved 66)

Parma: Bucci; Zenoni, Falcone (Rossi 75), Couto, Antonelli; Dessena (Cigarini 88), Mariga, Morrone, Castellini; Reginaldo; Corradi (Gasbarroni 48)

Salihamidzic: «It’s not over yet»

Two days after the great win against AC Milan, Hasan Salihamidzic is still in the spotlight at Juventus. With his two goals he gave a great joy to everybody there.

Such a triumph would deserve more time to be savoured, but there isn't any. Wednesday it's already time to go on the pitch again. The League match against Parma needs to be played and Brazzo is already focusing on the event: «It's always nice to win a match against AC Milan – he remarked in an exclusive interview with Juventus Channel - but we need to focus on the next game already. We have this difficult match Wednesday against Parma, it'd be important to win for qualification to the Champions League. We've almost made it and we need to keep concentrating on who's in front, not on who's behind us».

Brazzo has become well-known this year thanks to his adaptability: he can play as a full-back, a winger, a central midfielder, on the right or on the left; the result doesn’t change. It's a quality he learned with time: «Changing position isn’t a problem for me; in fact it’s important to be adaptable. When I was at Hamburg I used to play up front. At Monaco I played as one of the three strikers, in midfield but also at the back».

Salihamidzic is enjoying his moment in the spotlight and is getting compliments for his cool head in front of goal. Two goals in one single match have increased his tally to four in the League, five if we count the one in the Italian Cup too. And the season's not over yet. «The last time I scored two goals in one game? Seven years ago. I always try to be ready and take advantage of stopped play situations. It isn't easy to score in the Italian League. I've scored four now but if I had the chance I'd like to score more. In any case the most important thing is winning and at Juve we have excellent strikers who can always score».

Kewell Moving Closer To Juve – Report

Harry Kewell is moving closer to a summer move to Juventus, according to the latest reports in Italy.

Harry Kewell's five-year contract with Liverpool expires at the end of June, and there are apparently no plans to extend his stay on Merseyside.

The 29-year-old’s time at Anfield has been plagued by injuries, and he has barely featured at all this season, making his last appearance during the FA Cup defeat to Barnsley back in February.

The Corriere dello Sport says that Juventus coach Claudio Ranieri is an admirer of Kewell from his time as a coach with Chelsea in the Premiership.

The Tinkerman would like to strengthen the left midfield position in the Bianconeri squad, with Pavel Nedved, who will turn 36 this summer, the only option currently.

The fact that Kewell will be available on a Bosman free is also attracting to the Juventus hierarchy.

However a club source from Liverpool told the Sunday Mirror in England that Kewell wants to stay at Liverpool.

"Harry and his family are really happy in the North West and don't want to move,” said the source.

"All Harry's concentrating on is getting fit and doing his best for Liverpool. They're the club he supported as a boy and he still wants to prove himself to the fans."

Sunderland, Celtic and Bolton are also said to be interested in landing the Australian international.

Sali's secret to success

Hasan Salihamidzic was Juventus’ hero against Milan on Saturday evening and has attributed his success to his “versatility.”

While fellow summer signings Tiago Mendes and Sergio Almiron flopped in their first months in the Juve shirt, Salihamidzic has settled in well and has shown that he can adapt to a variety of roles.

The Bosnian was the key man as the Old Lady triumphed over Milan as he hit a match-winning double and he is happy to try his hand wherever Claudio Ranieri needs him.

“I don’t have a problem with changing position,” he told the Juventus Channel.

“On Saturday I played on the left, then in defence and then on the right of midfield. It’s a question of character.

“At Hamburg I played as a second striker and at Monaco I was a utility man. Versatility is an important quality for me and for the team.”

Salihamidzic doubled his tally for the season with Saturday’s exploits and has a plan to increase his haul.

“I have scored a brace two or three times in my career, but the last was seven years ago,” he explained.

“From corners I tend to move to a precise position and every now and again the ball arrives.

“I have scored four goals so far and we will have to see whether number five arrives.”

Juve are now closing in on securing a place in next season’s Champions League, but they still trail second-placed Roma by 10 points, albeit with a game in hand.

“As far as my objectives are concerned, they are perfectly in line with Ranieri,” Salihamidzic continued.

“I don’t want to say that we are in the Champions League, but I am looking at Roma and Inter instead of Milan and Fiorentina.

“Alessandro Del Piero? He is one of the best players in the world and he knows how to score. He is very important for us.

“Mohamed Sissoko is also a top player and everyone wanted him before we got there.

“As players we don’t decide who comes and it isn’t important. It is tough to buy a great player on a free transfer, but every now and again it is possible.

“All the talk about the market tends to be played out in the newspapers, but we are always thinking about the games.”

Secco stands by market moves

Much maligned Juventus sporting director Alessio Secco has defended his transfer policy. "The signings have been impeccable."

There has been widespread criticism directed at Secco for bringing in Jean-Alain Boumsong, Tiago Mendes and Sergio Almiron, while letting Adrian Mutu leave and attempting to sell Giorgio Chiellini.

Whispers have suggested that Juve will replace Secco with Napoli’s Pierpaolo Marino this summer, but the Bianconeri transfer guru stands by his efforts.

“Sometimes we regret certain decisions,” Secco told Tuttosport. “No man is immune from mistakes in the market and it is too easy to talk with hindsight.

“From time to time I regret Mutu leaving, but everything happened at a dramatic time in the club’s history. Rafa Benitez possibly regrets letting Momo Sissoko go.

“But I think that the players who have signed fro Juve over the past couple of seasons have been impeccable.”

Sissoko has impressed in his time with the Old Lady, despite his arrival being greeted with cynicism by fans and journalists alike.

“It’s no secret that we followed Sissoko for more than a year,” Secco explained.

“In the end we were able to buy him and he has gone beyond our expectations to tell the truth. In my opinion, he is the best midfielder in our League today.”

Juve await Amauri D-day

Juventus chief Giovanni Cobolli Gigli has revealed that tomorrow could be a crucial day for the Old Lady’s bid to sign Palermo hitman Amauri.

The Bianconeri are looking to reinforce their squad this summer to challenge for the Scudetto next term and they have set their sights on luring Amauri.

The Brazilian marksman is ready to leave the Stadio Renzo Barbera in the summer and has a number of potential suitors, but Juve are firmly in pole position.

“Tomorrow, there will be a meeting between Palermo President Maurizio Zamparini, myself, Jean-Claude Blanc and Alessio Secco to discuss Amauri,” Cobolli Gigli said on Radio Anch’io Sport.

“The player is interested in us and we are hoping to buy him. It could be that the meeting is inconclusive, but there is a desire to do business.”

Palermo are expected to demand around £15m for the former Chievo man, but Press reports suggest that a part-exchange deal is likely, possible involving Azzurrini starlet Sebastian Giovinco.

Cobolli Gigli also discussed the signings that have already been made over the last few months.

“Mohamed Sissoko is a great player and a great person,” he declared. “He is young and has become an idol with our fans - he is proving to be an excellent buy.

“I also consider Tiago Mendes to be a superstar, even if he hasn’t managed to give us what we expected.

“We have already signed Olof Mellberg on a free transfer to reinforce the defence and then there are youngsters like Giovinco, Claudio Marchisio and hopefully Paolo De Ceglie to return.”

Juve have exceeded expectations and look set to cement a place in next season’s Champions League and Cobolli Gigli concluded by praising his side’s achievements so far.

“The team has stayed compact and demonstrated that the year in Serie B was a one-off,” he said.

“The objective for this season is to finish in the top four and get a place in the Champions League, but the fans are hungry for a Scudetto and we hope to achieve that next term.

“Inter and Roma are very strong, but when we have played against them we have shown that we aren’t that far back from them. To overcome the gap, we just need to strengthen correctly in the market.”

Juve already at work

Juventus didn't even have time to enjoy their exciting and well-deserved win against AC Milan, as they're already back at work preparing Wednesday night's game against Parma. The Bianconeri trained in the morning: player employed Saturday evening only had a light session, while the others carried out athletic and individual skill exercises.

Good news about Nicola Legrottaglie: the defender, forced to go out in the second half of the game against AC Milan after his right knee was hit hard during the first half, is feeling much better. Tomorrow his fitness level will be evaluated in view of him possibly playing Wednesday night against Parma. Momo Sissoko was hit hard too, on his right ankle. Despite his condition improving, the midfielder will probably need to miss the match against the team from the Emilia region.

A piece of Europe in Juve's hands

Europe isn't that far. Juventus probably made a decisive step towards qualifying for the next Champions League tonight. They beat AC Milan at the Olimpico and now have nine points more than the Rossoneri, with one more match to play too.

The game was spectacular, worthy of the two Clubs' history. The Bianconeri began at full speed and scored with Del Piero after 12 minutes. AC Milan came back with two Inzaghi goals; Salihamidzic found the equalizer at the end of the first half to avoid the Rossoneri being in front at the break.

In the second half Ranieri's team piled forward and their efforts were successful. Bonera's sending off after a bad foul on Sissoko was decisive. Playing with one man more, Juve scored the final goal with Brazzo Salihamidzic again, after 79 minutes. Kalac saved on Del Piero near the end, avoiding a possible fourth.

But the substance doesn't change. This is a win that will be decisive at the end of the season. Juventus confirmed they're at their best when facing their direct rivals and, match after match, are proving they deserve a place in Europe. Wednesday night against Parma they have a chance to get even closer to their objective.

Ale and Brazzo, heroes of the night

One of Juventus' finest wins of the season carries the prestigious name of Captain Del Piero and Brazzo Salihamidzic, who got his first brace scored in Italy. The win achieved at the Olimpico is a very significant result, regardless of the Rossoneri's prestige and the rivalry between the two teams. First of all, because Juve hadn't won against them since 2002, when the Manager was still Marcello Lippi (by the way, he turned 60 today, happy birthday!), but most of all because it's worth so much in terms of qualifying for the Champions League.

At the end of the game, the two stars explained how they felt to Juventus Channel.

Salihamidzic: «We're happy. From tonight we can say we've almost made it into the Champions League. This was an important win, against the World Champions. The Manager asked me to score goals? Actually he wanted four before the game, but seeing how it went, he wants five now. I'm happy when I can score or when as a midfielder I can give a hand in winning, but we have people who are focused on scoring and that's our strikers. In any case I hope to score the next one already against Parma».

Del Piero: «It was a great night, starting from the award I got before the game. I'm proud to be compared to Scirea, he was always one of the greats, an example to be followed, not just by me. This one against AC Milan was an important win, it confirms our progress. The more we play together the more we get to know each other. These great matches bring motivation and thanks to this we attacked to the end, and our efforts proved successful. My own performance? I'm pleased, but it's a shame the referee didn't wait another few seconds to end the game, I would have scored from our half of the pitch».

Ranieri: «The week has started well»

Claudio Ranieri, on the eve of the match against AC Milan, had spoken about a decisive week. To think about the Rossoneri, yes, but also about Wednesday's game against Parma and next Sunday's one against Atalanta: three games on the road that should take Juve to Europe.

The first went well. In fact, more than well. Ancelotti's team were beaten in what was truly a match against direct rivals. And the Manager could only smile when speaking to Juventus Channel: «We struggled hard for this win. Let's not forget we were facing the Club World Champions and this was clear in the first half, when they made us suffer. We did well to equalize before the break and I knew we'd come into our own in the second half. The lads were all fantastic. Brazzo? Before the game, I told him that he'd not been scoring much and that I was expecting at least five goals from him in the season, today he got up to four, I think he likes to please me. I'm happy about winning yet another match against direct rivals, episodes have been favourable to us in these matches, but we’ve never given up. The week has started well, now we have to do it again against Parma».

Legrottaglie and Sissoko's condition to be checked

against AC Milan. It obviously concerns injuries. Specifically the ones occurred to Nicola Legrottaglie and Momo Sissoko. The defender had to leave the pitch at the start of the second half after twisting his knee in the first. Sissoko stayed on until the end despite the bad Bonera tackle to his right ankle (Bonera was sent off for it) in the second half.

Both players will be visited already Sunday morning when the team go back training, but, as Claudio Ranieri explained after the match, it is unlikely they'll recover in time for Wednesday's game against Parma.

Bonera: I'm so sorry

Daniele Bonera has publicly apologised to Momo Sissoko – and his Milan teammates – for the horror tackle that ruined last night’s game.

The scoreline was 2-2 in Turin before Bonera’s shocking leg-breaker challenge earned him a straight red card on 66 minutes and Juventus went on to win 3-2.

“I went by the locker room earlier to apologise to Sissoko, because I realised I had made an awful tackle,” confessed the defender.

“I wanted to get the ball and was already powering in. I should have stopped, but I was going at some speed and looking back at the footage it was a horrible challenge.”

Former Liverpool midfielder Sissoko was extremely fortunate to avoid injury, as he was able to continue the game after several minutes of treatment.

Bonera is well aware his dismissal also proved disastrous for Milan, whose 3-2 defeat puts a huge dent in their Champions League chances.

“I apologised to my teammates too, but we should not have conceded on a set piece. We only suffered under a little bit of pressure after going down to 10 men.

“Clearly now we are forced to chase fourth place and hope other results go our way. We have to believe right up until the end, but time is running out.”

Del Piero "starving" for success

Alessandro Del Piero believes his blistering form is due to his “hunger” for success and Euro 2008 ambitions.

The Juventus captain was in great shape and scored in last night’s 3-2 victory over Milan.

“There are many reasons for my form. I am certainly hungry for success – starved, in fact – and that makes a difference.”

The year in Serie B has left Juve and their leader feeling a desire to prove themselves and make up for the titles lost to Calciopoli.

Del Piero’s other prime objective this summer is to get back into Roberto Donadoni’s Italy squad for Euro 2008.

Although the Coach has been reticent to name him of late, the famed Panini sticker company placed Del Piero in their publication for the competition.

“Thank you, Panini,” he grinned when told of the move.

Before kick-off in the Stadio Olimpico last night, Del Piero was handed a special shirt commemorating the fact he beat Gaetano Scirea’s record of 552 appearances for the club.

“Scirea was not only an example for me, but for everyone in this sport. He is untouchable.”

Ranieri hails Juve character

Coach Claudio Ranieri praised Juventus’ character as they fought back to see off Milan 3-2 and is targeting second place.

“We have beaten the World Club champions,” smiled the tactician after a thrilling encounter in Turin.

This is the latest triumph against a giant after seeing off Inter 2-1 at San Siro.

“You can tell those teams are consolidated, but we throw ourselves into it heart and soul. The gap between us is closed because we have incredible hunger. We have the character to fight it out with anyone.

“Milan played a great first half and pushed us down the flanks, but after the break we took more control and had our kind of performance.

“We had a few distractions in defence, but that is only because Milan had real quality. On the first goal Kaka was more agile than Giorgio Chiellini and beat him in the one-on-one.”

The midfield was solid despite the absence of Cristiano Zanetti, though Tiago Mendes struggled to make an impact.

“Mauro Camoranesi could not help out Zdenek Grygera, so I moved Hasan Salihamidzic and left Camo clear to do what he wanted. Mauro had a great game.

“Tiago knows how to play and it wasn’t easy against Milan’s midfield. I am happy with his performance, he gave us balance. Momo Sissoko, on the other hand, was extraordinary.”

Juve have put their Champions League place under lock and key, but are still aiming for Roma in second.

“We are gambling with a great deal this week. First Parma in the rescheduled game and then Atalanta. It is important to give our all, then we’ll see where we end up.”

Buffon looks to Europe

Gianluigi Buffon thinks Juventus can start celebrating a Champions League spot and prepare to win the trophy next term.

“I think this victory definitively leaves Milan behind us and takes us away from the direct opponents for a Champions League place, which at this stage are Fiorentina and Sampdoria,” said the goalkeeper after the 3-2 win over the Rossoneri.

“Both of these sides have tough games on Sunday, so this could prove to be a very favourable round for Juve.”

The Viola in fourth place pay visit to leaders Inter, while Samp go to struggling Reggina.

Buffon admits he was concerned when Super Pippo Inzaghi struck twice to put Milan 2-1 up.

“In games like this it is very important for everyone to have the confidence in themselves and their teammates, so I was worried when we conceded such silly goals that some might lose hope.”

They fought back with a Hasan Salihamidzic brace to defeat Milan and the goalkeeper is now already focused on next season.

“If the club said we’d remain with the same players next season, maybe a couple more than we have now, then I would be content.

“What Juventus really want is to win the Champions League. Just look at Liverpool, who haven’t made an impact in the Premier League for years and yet are always doing well in the Champions League.

“It proves that even if you don’t have the biggest or strongest squad, you can make yourself heard in that competition.”

Juventus 3 - 2 Milan

Del Piero 12 (J), Inzaghi 14, 31 (M), Salihamidzic 45, 80 (J)

Juventus fought back to defeat Milan 3-2 with Hasan Salihamidzic's brace, but Daniele Bonera's red card for a horror tackle proved decisive.

These two clubs dominated Serie A for two decades and it remained a battle of pride as well as a key game. The Bianconeri needed a victory to make up for last week's 3-2 loss at Palermo, while the Rossoneri knew only a win would keep their Champions League hopes intact. Carlo Ancelotti had to completely revolutionise his defence as Alessandro Nesta and Kakha Kaladze were banned, while Marek Jankulovski, Massimo Oddo, Ronaldo and Alexandre Pato had injuries. Pavel Nedved was suspended and Cristiano Zanetti sidelined.

Juve last won this fixture in November 2002 and curiously, Milan had not shared the spoils on their travels since a 1-1 at Catania on February 27, the same weekend as Juve’s last home draw in the goalless Turin derby.

Alessandro Del Piero flashed an angled drive off target, but he opened the scoring on 12 minutes. Mauro Camoranesi beat Giuseppe Favalli and threaded through for Del Piero's right-foot angled drive that trickled past Zeljko Kalac's outstretched leg and into the far corner of the net.

Moments later Inzaghi nearly equalised, as he sprung the offside trap on Favalli's cross and hit the side-netting.

Once again, it was a warning not heeded, as 60 seconds later Super Pippo drew level. Kaka held off Giorgio Chiellini down the left channel and rolled across for Inzaghi to tap in from six yards. This was his first goal against Juve in Turin.

Chiellini nodded a corner over the bar and Zdenek Grygera curled off target, while Buffon smothered a Kaka effort that bounced just in front of him.

Del Piero wasted a great counter-attack when he tried to dribble a little too long and was crowded out by Rossoneri shirts. Clarence Seedorf's wayward cross turned into a very dangerous lob that Buffon tipped on to the crossbar!

The resulting corner was not cleared effectively and allowed Milan to go 2-1 up. Daniele Bonera sprung the offside trap and smartly rolled across to Inzaghi, who was behind the line of the ball for a tap-in from eight yards. Before last week Inzaghi had scored just one Serie A goal all season, but this was his fourth in two games.

The Rossoneri had another wonderful scoring opportunity with Kaka's cracking right-foot volley spilled by Buffon and the World Cup winning goalkeeper just about scrambled the loose ball off the feet of Inzaghi.

However, Juventus made it 2-2 on the stroke of half-time. Del Piero dispossessed Paolo Maldini with a sneaky tackle and Camoranesi chopped a cross for David Trezeguet's header, which Kalac parried into the path of Hasan Salihamidzic.

The drama still wasn't over, as 30 seconds later Gennaro Gattuso's lob forced Buffon into a fingertip save.

After the restart Dario Simic slipped and was still able to intercept Del Piero's pass for Trezeguet. Nicola Legrottaglie limped off with a sprained knee and made way for Guglielmo Stendardo.

Grygera almost scored the goal of the season as he unleashed an extraordinary right-foot rocket from 34 metres that Kalac had to fingertip round the post.

Maldini's sliding tackle dispossessed Camoranesi at the byeline after he had overcome Simic. Bonera needed a glancing header to tip Sissoko's cross off the head of Stendardo from six yards, doing just enough to put the Juve defender off.

There was controversy on 66 minutes. Seedorf was furious that Camoranesi did not receive a booking for a stamp, but as soon as play resumed Bonera received a straight red card for a horrible studs-up challenge right on Sissoko's shin. It really was a leg-breaker tackle that risked serious injury to the former Liverpool midfielder. Fortunately, Sissoko was able to continue after several minutes of treatment.

Carlo Ancelotti had to balance out the side and threw on Marcos Cafu for Inzaghi. It seemed to work, as the Brazilian veteran was brought down by Camoranesi on the right channel for a poor Andrea Pirlo free kick.

Trezeguet made way for Vincenzo Iaquinta, so Ranieri did not risk the trident even against 10 men. Maldini charged down a Grygera counter, but there was further controversy 10 minutes from time. Maldini was very harshly penalised for a shoulder against shoulder challenge with Grygera and from that Camoranesi free kick Salihamidzic was allowed a totally free header.

Milan poured forward looking for the equaliser and this left space at the back for Del Piero to flash a counter off target, while Alberto Gilardino replaced Gattuso.

Buffon smothered a Cafu snapshot and Massimo Ambrosini moved up the field as a striker, but at the other end Del Piero's volley hit Kalac's outstretched foot in a one-on-one situation. Seedorf earned a free kick five minutes into stoppages and even Kalac went up, but Juve held on for the victory.

Juventus: Buffon; Grygera, Legrottaglie (Stendardo 51), Chiellini, Molinaro; Camoranesi (Nocerino 90), Tiago, Sissoko, Salihamidzic; Del Piero, Trezeguet (Iaquinta 78)

Milan: Kalac; Bonera, Simic, Maldini, Favalli; Gattuso (Gilardino 83), Pirlo (Brocchi 89), Ambrosini; Kakà, Seedorf; Inzaghi (Cafu 69)

Juve to offer Palla for Hamsik?

Juventus forward Raffaele Palladino could be set for Napoli in an exchange deal for talented midfielder Marek Hamsik.

Palladino, who is a native of Naples, has admitted his frustration this term as he has struggled to hold down a place in Juve’s first team.

The former Azzurrini man’s chances of being selected for Euro 2008 have been dented by a lack of playing time and he is reportedly ready for crisis talks with his agent at the end of the current campaign.

While Sampdoria, Genoa and Fiorentina are said to be keeping an eye on the 23-year-old, Tuttosport suggests that the Old Lady will use Palla as a bargaining chip in their bid to land Napoli’s Hamsik.

Hamsik has been a great success at the Stadio San Paolo since arriving from Brescia in the summer.

It is no secret that Juve hold the Slovakian midfielder in high regard, but Napoli sporting director Pierpaolo Marino has been quick to stress that he is not for sale.

While the Vesuviani may be reluctant to trade Hamsik for cash, they could be tempted by the chance to add a gifted front man to the ranks, possibly in a part-exchange agreement.

Camoranesi: «Against AC Milan the turning point»

If it's not a match point, it's very close. Juventus are getting ready to face direct rivals AC Milan on Saturday, knowing that the chance to qualify for the next edition of the Champions League is at stake. With a six-point lead (and one more match to play compared to AC Milan, against Parma), Ranieri's team could leave Ancelotti's men, perhaps their most dangerous opponents for Europe, behind for good.

This game is therefore vital, even more interesting than usual, and it always is a very prestigious and fascinating encounter. It fell upon one of its most eagerly awaited stars to introduce it: Mauro German Camoranesi. The first concept expressed by the Italian-Argentinean player immediately made everyone aware of what Juventus' aims are. «We have a good lead, regardless of Saturday's result we'll be in front and it still wouldn't be easy for them to recover. That's why winning would be like a turning point for us. Mathematically, they could still catch us, but it would be virtually over for them. We'll play to win, the draw would be useful to maintain the distance, but we have to manage that distance mainly by winning. AC Milan? They remain a very competitive side; they have players that can decide a match at any moment. Moreover, they've got Kakà back again, and he's one of those players that can make a difference. I hope this won't be the last time I play against Maldini, he's an example for everyone and he should keep playing».

Juve arrive at this match after a game in Palermo where they got less than they deserved: «Despite the defeat, we did well. Palermo didn't put us under and that's the most important thing. What happens to us in the first half? Maybe we play a little relaxed at first. When we let in a goal, then we have to impose our game and often we're able to overcome the deficit. We weren't able to do so on Sunday, but if we'd won we wouldn't have stolen anything. We have to concentrate on one match at a time from now up to the end of the season, trying to understand if we can arrive in second place. Seven points are a lot and it'll be hard if Roma don't make mistakes. There's not a huge difference between second and third place, apart from the shorter holidays. The main thing is to get back into the Champions League, to face the best teams in Europe again, keeping in mind that there's a big difference between the League and the Cups, and we still have a lot to do to be like the biggest teams in Europe».

Mauro German Camoranesi will surely still be at Juventus next year, and he's eager to play in Europe as a World Champion with his Club. And his future has only one name in it, Juventus: «For the time being, I can say I'm happy because in this last part of the season I was able to train consistently and I still have these last games left to improve even more in terms of fitness. The role I prefer is on the wing, because I've been playing there longest. I can agree to play in the middle, but only for a few matches. You need time to do well in that position and there are players such as Tiago who can do better than me in that role. My future? My contract is up in two years' time. If I’m still fit then, I'd like to extend it, but there's no rush for now. I have a good relationship with the Club and I feel I'm more important than ever, and playing with so many great players is an advantage. We've had lots of managers and I've always played regularly. And this can only make me happy».

Zanetti trains separately. Ranieri press conference on Friday

This morning the team warmed up by playing handball and basketball, and then played training matches on a smaller-sized pitch. Cristiano Zanetti trained separately again today: he ran around the pitch a few times, but this doesn't necessarily mean he'll be sure to recover in time for Saturday night's game against AC Milan.

All the other Bianconeri will be available, including Legrottaglie, who'd ended the session early yesterday due to fatigue, and Nedved, who also took part in a training match: a good sign for Claudio Ranieri, who will name his squad tomorrow during a press conference at the Juventus Center, starting from 1 pm. Juventus in 'Amauri agreement’

Palermo and Juventus have agreed a provisional deal for the transfer of Amauri, according to the Corriere dello Sport.

The talented Brazilian marksman is hot property in the peninsula and is widely known to be Juve’s principal transfer target this summer.

Recent reports have suggested that Amauri has his heart set on joining the Old Lady, but that Spanish champions Real Madrid could hijack the deal.

However, the Corriere dello Sport insists that Juve sporting director Alessio Secco has reached an agreement with Palermo’s transfer chief Rino Foschi.

The fee is believed to be around £8.4m plus the rights to Azzurrini midfielder Antonio Nocerino and former Parma winger Marco Marchionni.

There are also whispers that Secco is considering offering defender Domenico Criscito – currently on loan at Genoa – to try and reduce the cash payment.

A month ago, there were claims that Secco had proposed a part exchange of £12m plus Sebastian Giovinco, Paolo De Ceglie and Claudio Marchisio.

But with Giovinco excelling at Empoli and De Ceglie impressing in a Siena shirt, such an offer seems reckless and highly unlikely.

It has been suggested that Coach Claudio Ranieri vetoed the original proposal, but that he is happier with the new terms

Preview Juventus - Milan

These two clubs dominated Serie A over the past two decades and that pride is still at the forefront as well as the battle for Champions League spots.

Calciopoli hit these clubs hard, as Juventus were demoted to Serie B and lost many of their stars, while Milan are paying the price for focusing entirely on European and world silverware. Not counting those stripped from Juventus, these sides have won 13 of the last 16 Scudetti. It will be the 73rd edition of this Serie A fixture in Turin and Juve have not won it in over five years, managing a 3-1 defeat and two draws since the 2-1 result in November 2002.

The Bianconeri gave up their slender Scudetto dreams with an unlucky 3-2 loss at Palermo last weekend, though third place seems to be under lock and key. Milan can only dream of such security, lying four points adrift of fourth and with even their UEFA Cup spot under threat from Sampdoria and Udinese. At least they got back on track by seeing off Cagliari 3-1 on Saturday, welcoming Kaka and Pippo Inzaghi back from injury with crucial goals. Zeljko Kalac is under pressure after his howler and faces a tough test with Alessandro Del Piero on sparkling form bagging a brace in Sicily.

Pavel Nedved had to spend the weekend in hospital after a horrific clash of heads with Palermo’s Roberto Guana, but the Czech international should be fit to play after all. If not, Hasan Salihamidzic is ready to take over alongside Tiago Mendes and the increasingly impressive Momo Sissoko. Cristiano Zanetti and Jorge Andrade remain sidelined and Zdenek Grygera is expected to get the nod ahead of Jonathan Zebina.

Former Juve boss Carlo Ancelotti has many more problems to contend with. His defence is completely revolutionised as Alessandro Nesta and Kakha Kaladze sit out bans, while Massimo Oddo, Marek Jankulovski, Giuseppe Favalli, Emerson and Ronaldo are injured. This means he may have to field ageing figures Marcos Cafu and Serginho as full-backs in a 4-4-2 system that certainly appeared more solid against Cagliari than it had done in a long time.

Inzaghi’s brace may have done enough to earn him a spot upfront, because Alexandre Pato has added to Ancelotti’s woes with a muscular twinge that kept him out of last week’s game and has not yet fully cleared up. Alberto Gilardino’s dismal form has pushed him down the pecking order and closer towards a summer transfer.

Curiously, Milan have not shared the spoils on their travels since a 1-1 at Catania on February 27, the same weekend as Juve’s last home draw in the goalless Turin derby.

Keep an eye on: Alessandro Del Piero (Juventus) – Il Capitano is in great shape and his brace at Palermo last week boosted calls for a place in Italy’s Euro 2008 squad.

Momo's Vieira ambition

Momo Sissoko has won over the Juventus supporters and is aiming high. “I want to be better than Patrick Vieira.”

The former Liverpool midfielder completed his transfer during the January window and after a shaky start has impressed fans and critics alike.

“Juve had been chasing me for two years,” he told Sky Italia. “I was meant to sign at the end of last season, but as I was happy at Liverpool I preferred not to risk it.

“Then I started playing a bit less at Liverpool and Juve renewed their interest. Despite the fact I had other very advanced negotiations in place, I chose Turin because for me they were the Number One club.”

He was specifically requested by Coach Claudio Ranieri, who had already worked with Sissoko at Valencia.

But he revealed that it was another former Juventus figure who proved instrumental in the move.

“Vieira advised me and spoke highly of Juventus. Rafa Benitez told me I would become better than Vieira.

“As far as I am concerned, I think we still have many years between us and I am still young, so I have a lot left to prove. Vieira has already shown he is a great. I can still improve and, why not, even become stronger than him.”

The 23-year-old Mali international is looking forward to his first clash with Milan this Saturday and Juve need a result after their 3-2 defeat at Palermo.

“We have many regrets, because we deserved to win that game, especially after a fantastic second half.

“That is football, sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, now we have to wipe it all off the slate. There is a crucial match against Milan coming up and we cannot be unprepared.”

Nedved: «I'll try and make it for Saturday»

Pavel Nedved is back; he's feeling better and will try to make it against AC Milan. This is the best and most reassuring news for Juventus fans after Wednesday's training session.

The Czech player worked with his team mates. In fact, he worked more than his team mates (even though some precautions were taken, such as avoiding headers). Indeed, after an intense session, he stayed a long time on the pitch with birthday boy Nocerino (23 today) trying out shots at goal. Before going back to the changing rooms, Nedved gave a short interview to Juventus Channel.

«I feel better – Pavel said – I'm a little weak, but that's normal as I've been inactive for three days. I trained intensely today and I'll try to make Saturday’s game, even though I'll have to be 100% fit to play, otherwise it’ll better if a fitter team mate takes my place. AC Milan? After going out of the Champions League, this game is vital for them and I thought they improved in the last match they played. As always, it'll be a balanced game, decided by episodes».

Getting back to the training session, Ranieri was able to work with most of his squad. Only Zanetti trained separately, with fitness coach Andrea Scanavino. The only player not to train at all was third goalkeeper Novembre, who has the flu. The schedule until Saturday includes two more morning sessions; tomorrow's session, on Thursday April 10, will be followed by a Mauro German Camoranesi press conference, beginning at 1 pm.

Suspensions, AC Milan without Nesta and Kaladze

Only two players suspended for Saturday night's big match, and both play for AC Milan: they are Kaladze and Nesta. The Georgian player pays for the yellow card received against Cagliari. The Italian still has one game to sit out, having being suspended for two rounds after the match against Atalanta, even though the Rossoneri have submitted a complaint and still hope they can have him back for the game.

No suspended players at Juventus. The list of players at risk, which included Trezeguet, Nocerino, Legrottaglie and Grygera, now has Salihamidzic too, who was booked at the Barbera together with Camoranesi, who remains out of the list though. Sideline assistant Paolo Benetti was also booked and cautioned after protesting too much at the end of Sunday night's match.

Happy birthday, Antonio and Jorge

The 9th of April is a special day at Juventus. For two reasons. Indeed, two first team lads celebrate their birthday at the same time.

They are Antonio Nocerino, who turns 23, and Jorge Andrade, who turns 30. Best wishes from all Juventus fans and from all of us at Juventus.com to the both of them.

Juventus Summer Camp: a few stats!

Registration to the 2008 Juventus Summer Camps have been open less than a month and already over 500 kids have signed up. This has become one of the unmissable events in Juventus' summer.

The summer camps are in their fifth year: on summer 2004, there was only one camp, in Bardonecchia, on the Piedmontese Alps. Now there are camps also in the Trentino region, in Roncegno Terme and Madonna di Campiglio, in Procida in the Campania region, Lido Adriano on the coast near Ravenna, Monopoli in the Puglia region and Nottingham in England, where an English language course is added too. Seven different locations but with the same guarantee: a quality camp with plenty of football and fun.

In the last few years, Juventus have established themselves in Italy in the field of sport holidays with their excellent packages and have received recognition for the high quality of their offer, from the choice of locations and facilities to the care in organizing sporting and non-sporting activities; a success that is confirmed by the first four summers' stats.

Over the four years, more than 4500 kids have spent at least one week's holiday in a Juventus Soccer School; up to 85 coaches, doctors and entertainment staff have been employed at the same time.

Kids from five continents have signed up for these Juventus camps, which have thus become a chance to get to know new friends who support the same team from every part of the world. As many as 32 different countries have been represented: Mexico, Switzerland, France, Germany, United States and Venezuela have had the biggest number of enrolments after Italy.

Countdown to Juventus–AC Milan begins

Training restarted today, signalling the start of the countdown towards Saturday night's big match against AC Milan, and 4 players missed the session. Nedved rested, recovering from the knock suffered at Palermo and the night spent in hospital, while Zanetti, Del Piero and Legrottaglie only trained in the gym.
This is common practice for the Captain when training restarts, whereas the defender is suffering from slight fatigue. Both players took part in De Franceschi and Maniero's testimonial match in Padova last night.
Zanetti, after his right thigh muscle begun bothering him again last week, underwent an ultrasound scan that ruled out any kind of relapse. Therefore the player begun training lightly today and will increase the workload in the next few days.

Juventus to play Emirates Cup

Juventus' 2008 summer will have an English taste again. Indeed the Club have been invited to take part in the 2nd edition of the Emirates Cup, a four-team tournament to be played at the Emirates Stadium (Arsenal's home ground), on the 2nd and 3rd of August 2008.

A prestigious tournament, due to the big names of the Clubs involved: apart from Juventus and hosts Arsenal, Real Madrid and Hamburg will also be taking part. The tournament's formula sees four matches concentrated in two days, and Del Piero and his team mates will face the Gunners in the first game (on Saturday August the 2nd, at 4.45 pm local time) and then the Germans the next day (at 2 pm local time).

Nedved discharged, back home this afternoon

Pavel Nedved is feeling better and this morning as scheduled left the hospital in Palermo where he spent the night under observation after the non-concussive cranial trauma suffered in an aerial clash with Guana.

Together with Dr. Bartolomeo Goitre – who stayed with him in Palermo -, the Czech player will make his way back to Turin this afternoon and will be able to return home at last. He will undergo further tests tomorrow.

Palermo play trick on Juve

Juventus couldn't have lost in a more painful way, as they played one of their best matches of the season - especially in the second half. Yet Palermo defeated them 3-2, in a match they really deserved to win.

Juventus were two goals down after the first half, with Amauri scoring twice, even though they'd been pretty much in charge of the proceedings. Then in the second half, Ranieri's team underwent a transformation. After a forced change in the first half (Iaquinta replaced Nedved, who came off due to a head injury and was taken to hospital as a precaution), Salihamidzic and Tiago also came on and the match changed.

The Bianconeri dominated the second half even more. Del Piero found a way to make his record-breaking evening (he reached 553 games played at Juventus, one more than Scirea) even more memorable, scoring twice from two Fontana parries. With the score at 2-2, Juve piled forward looking for a deserved win. The post and Fontana again denied Del Piero and Trezeguet.

When the draw (already an unsatisfactory result itself) seemed inevitable, the unbelievable happened. Mattia Cassani, a young player who grew up in Juventus' youth sector, invented a left-foot shot from long range and Buffon could do nothing. The final 3-2 result was an insult.

This defeat however doesn't compromise qualification for the Champions League. Next Saturday the chance to make the decisive step, when Juve face AC Milan at the Olimpico.

Ranieri: «Even a draw wouldn't have done us justice»

Speaking about a game you dominated and then ended up losing is never easy. That's why Claudio Ranieri's interview to Juventus Channel after the match was filled with regret.

«We could've won 4-2 and we lost 3-2 instead – the Manager commented -. Even a draw wouldn't have done us justice, as Gigi never made a save and they had three shots at goal in the entire match. It's true it's not like us to let in three goals, but two of them were due to exceptional pieces of individual skill and we were really only to blame for the second. In any case, I saw us play well, we're in good health and this makes me feel confident for the future».

Cobolli Gigli: «Let’s look at the positive»

The undeserved defeat suffered left many regrets. But also an awareness that Juve played another great game. There are mixed feelings among the Bianconeri leaving the Barbera Stadium after the match against Palermo.

Chairman Giovanni Cobolli Gigli preferred focusing on the positive feelings: «Let's try and see the glass as half full. It's true, we lost three points, but the team reacted very well, playing an excellent second half. Unfortunately this is football and it happens that you dominate and don't win. Now let's try and keep the same level of concentration for next Saturday's game against AC Milan».

Nedved to spend night at hospital

Pavel Nedved, who had to come off in the first half after 22 minutes during tonight's game at the Barbera, underwent a CAT scan at the Santa Sofia Hospital after banging hid head in a clash with Palermo player Guana.

The scan gave a totally negative result. There is no concussion. The player was supposed to return to Turin with the team during the night, but it was felt that he should remain in the Sicilian hospital under observation for the night. Team doctor Bartolomeo Goitre stayed with him. The Czech player will make his way back to Turin early tomorrow afternoon.

Nedved and Guana in hospital

Pavel Nedved and Roberto Guana will spend the night in hospital, but tests have shown no serious injuries after they clashed heads.

The incident happened in the first half of tonight’s match between Palermo and Juventus at the Stadio Barbera.

The two players dramatically clashed foreheads and required several minutes of treatment before they could be stretchered off the field.

Guana immediately appeared to be in worse condition, as he had a large bruise on his forehead and was rushed off the pitch towards the local hospital.

Tests have shown there are no complications, although he will spend the night under observation.

Nedved was conscious and able to hold the ice pack to his head. He too has been given the all-clear, but will remain in hospital and fly back to Turin tomorrow rather than making the journey with his teammates tonight.

Juventus midfielder Tiago Mendes also got a nasty knock to the head and was bleeding throughout the second half, but was able to continue with the aid of bandaging.

Ranieri: We deserved victory

Both Claudio Ranieri and Stefano Colantuono admit Juventus could comfortably have won tonight instead of losing 3-2.

Palermo saw their 2-0 lead cancelled out by an Alessandro Del Piero brace in the second half and he also hit the woodwork, but Mattia Cassani’s screamer in the final minute sealed the scoreline.

“If I have to analyse this game, then I say Palermo had three shots on goal and Gigi Buffon did not make a single save,” commented the Juventus Coach.

“We took a while to get into gear, but Amauri’s goals did not knock us down. After the break I think nobody could complain if we were 4-2 up.

“It was heading towards a draw and even that seemed to be limiting considering what we’d done, but this is football. We never give up and towards the end pinned the Rosanero back into their own half.”

Momo Sissoko was particularly impressive in midfield and had a hand in both Bianconeri goals.

“He settled in immediately, feels like one of the team and is eager to work hard. He has character and can still grow.”

Ironically, Juventus President Giovanni Cobolli Gigli confirmed his interest in signing Amauri before this game.

“He could have found other ways to convince us!” joked Ranieri.

Palermo boss Colantuono also concedes that his team was lucky to emerge with all three points – their first win in six.

“In the second half we struggled under the sheer physicality of Juve’s game and risked compromising the whole result. Having said that, we dominated the first half.

“We also had problems because we lost Roberto Guana and Fabio Simplicio to injury and their replacements have different characteristics.

“This victory allows us to escape from the negative cycle and we are ready for the derby against Catania.”

Palermo 3 - 2 Juventus

Amauri 11, 45 (P), Del Piero 52, 71 (J), Cassani 89 (P)

A magnificent Amauri brace was cancelled out by Alex Del Piero, but Mattia Cassani's cracker gave Palermo a 3-2 victory.

Stefano Colantuono made his home 'debut' after an unlucky 1-0 defeat at Napoli last week, but faced another incredibly tough test. Curiously, Colantuono's last match in charge before he was fired was the 5-0 drubbing at Juventus. The Bianconeri were eager to consolidate a Champions League spot and were rested, as their last game with Parma was called off due to the tragic death of a fan.

Alessandro Del Piero celebrated his 553rd official match in a Juve jersey, becoming the all-time top player ahead of Gaetano Scirea.

The Rosanero got off to a splendid start as Amauri drilled wide after 11 seconds and hit the back of the net with a spectacular strike 10 minutes later. Roberto Guana won back the ball in midfield and Amauri pushed forward before unleashing a curling right-foot stunner from 16 metres that slotted into the far top corner just beyond the fingertips of Gigi Buffon.

David Trezeguet had a good chance, but just failed to get a touch to the Alessandro Del Piero cross from the left. The home side were very sprightly and Guana's counter was charged down for a corner.

There were worrying scenes when Guana clashed heads with Pavel Nedved, forehead against forehead, and neither were able to continue. Nedved was stretchered off for Vincenzo Iaquinta, moving Del Piero into a trequartista role, while Guana was rushed off the field to hospital for further treatment although he was conscious.

Play resumed and Del Piero's volley was deflected over off Leandro Rinaudo and Mauro Camoranesi had penalty appeals for a Mattia Cassani shirt-tug.

Giorgio Chiellini had a totally free header from Camoranesi's corner, but couldn't keep the ball down. Moments later Del Piero was stopped clear on goal for an incorrect offside flag.

Cristian Molinaro and Camoranesi blasted over from distance, but Palermo seemed in control and doubled their lead in first half stoppages.

Fabio Caserta got away down the left and floated in a cross for Amauri's powerful header again into the top corner. Buffon got a touch to it, but the header was just too powerful to be kept out.

Claudio Ranieri completed his substitutions at half-time with Hasan Salihamidzic and Tiago Mendes coming on. Within 60 seconds of coming on Tiago clashed heads with Giulio Migliaccio and was left with blood pouring down his face, but he was able to continue after treatment.

Juve got back into the game in determined fashion. Momo Sissoko did most of the work, pushing through a couple of challenges for Alberto Fontana to beat away his strike, but as he was protesting for a push, the ball fell to Del Piero for an angled drive.

Nicola Legrottaglie was almost an unlikely hero as the defender smashed a corker from 31 metres that shaved a coat of paint off the upright. At the other end Caserta fired wide of the near post, while Trezeguet failed to make the most of a lucky ricochet with a weak finish.

Amauri had penalty appeals for a Salihamidzic nudge waved away, but Juventus got back on level terms with another chaotic move. This time it was Trezeguet whose header from a Sissoko cross was palmed away by Fontana, but the goalkeeper could do nothing on Del Piero's follow-up from an almost identical position to his first goal.

Rinaudo risked scoring an own goal and Trezeguet had a shot charged down from seven yards as Juve poured forward in the final minutes.

They should have gone 3-2 up on 80 minutes. Del Piero's sublime free kick cracked against the near upright and Trezeguet's follow-up was desperately palmed over at point-blank range by Fontana.

Trezeguet volleyed just wide of the near post and Iaquinta nodded a Molinaro cross over from six yards when in an offside position.

It all looked as if Juve were going to take the lead at any moment, but against the run of play Palermo restored their advantage with a stunning Cassani effort. A fre kick was cleared to 26 metres and the full-back hit an absolutely fantastic left-foot screamer into the far top corner with Buffon rooted to the spot.

Palermo: Fontana; Cassani, Rinaudo, Barzagli, Balzaretti; Guana (Tedesco 23), Migliaccio; Jankovic (Zaccardo 81), Simplicio (Bresciano 62), Caserta; Amauri

Juventus: Buffon; Grygera (Salihamidzic 46), Legrottaglie, Chiellini, Molinaro; Camoranesi, Nocerino (Tiago 46), Sissoko, Nedved (Iaquinta 23); Trezeguet, Del Piero

In leaps and bounds towards Palermo

Nearly two weeks after the last official game played (the win at Inter Milan on March 22), Juventus are getting ready to get back on the pitch. Before playing the postponed match against Parma, Ranieri's men will play at Palermo on Sunday night.

Preparation for the game against the Sicilian team continues. Friday morning's session in Vinovo was a light one. Zanetti underwent physiotherapy due to a muscle problem that'll force him to miss Sunday's match.

The schedule for Saturday includes a press conference by Claudio Ranieri, then a training session in the afternoon and finally the team will leave for Palermo.

The town of Palermo is eagerly awaiting Sunday night's match. A full house is expected for Juventus' return at the Barbera stadium. But it is also Stefano Colantuono's return; the Manager last week made his comeback on the Rosanero's bench, after being sacked temporarily during the first part of the season.

Indeed he was sacked precisely after the defeat against Juve at the Olimpico. It was a clear 5-0 drubbing, with goals by Trezeguet, Iaquinta, Del Piero (who got two) and Marchionni. That was the 39th Serie A game between the teams since the single round was introduced, and the umpteenth win for Juventus, who have prevailed 24 times to Palermo's four. Even on Sicilian ground, Juve have won more: eight times against three. In the last two games played there, Palermo won 1-0 in 2005, whereas Juventus won 2-1 (with two Mutu goals) in 2006.

And now another match, eagerly awaited by Federico Balzaretti in particular. The defender joined Palermo in the winter and is preparing to face his former team mates with another team, after facing them with Fiorentina. However, the other former Juve player, Fabrizio Miccoli, won't be able to make it. As announced by the ANSA agency, the Lecce-born striker is injured and almost certainly won't recover in time. Another Palermo player has Juventus in his past: his name is Mattia Cassani, and he grew up in Juventus' Youth sector.

Flamini waiting for Old Lady?

Arsenal midfielder Mathieu Flamini is resisting pressure to sign a new deal with the Gunners, strengthening rumours he will join Juventus this summer.

The talented Frenchman has been in negotiations with Arsenal for several months as the Premier League giants look to tie him to the club beyond this summer when his current deal expires.

However, Flamini continues to turn down an offer believed to be in the region of £50,000 per week, despite appeals from manager Arsene Wenger and teammate Cesc Fabregas.

“I keep telling him to sign a deal quickly because we need him, but he is concentrating on his football at the moment,” Fabregas revealed.

“As we are chasing two titles, everything else isn’t important at the moment, but he wants to know where he will be next season and we all hope he will be with us.”

While Inter and Milan have both reportedly declared an interest in Flamini, Juve have emerged as the most likely destination.

There were reports earlier in the week that a deal had already been agreed with the Old Lady, but these are still unsubstantiated.

Flamini’s future is unclear at the moment, but the longer he holds out on Arsenal the more hope Juve’s fans will hold for a free transfer swoop.

Trez awaits Milan date

Juventus have to negotiate Palermo this Sunday, but David Trezeguet is looking ahead to April 12’s showdown with Milan.

The Old Lady continue to exceed expectations and are still harbouring a Scudetto dream with seven games remaining.

This weekend sees Claudio Ranieri’s men travel to Sicily to take on a struggling Palermo outfit, but the Bianconeri are already anticipating the chance to deal old rivals Milan a fatal blow in their bid for Champions League qualification.

“It’s a game that holds a special fascination because Juve and Milan are two of the sides who play the best football in the world,” Trez enthused on Sky Sport Italia.

“The Rossoneri may be going through a delicate time, but they are still strong and opponents to be feared. But this test will help us see how far this Old Lady side has come.”

While Milan have disappointed this term, young gun Alexandre Pato is a fearsome opponent.

“He can quickly become one of the best players around,” Trez stressed.

“He is very determined and has the ability to show a great calmness. Most importantly, he is extraordinary on a technical level.”

The French international has often been linked with Milan, especially at the end of last season when he fell out with the Juve directors.

“There have been times when people have discussed a swap with Alberto Gilardino,” he said. “But I am very happy at Juve and I’m hoping to stay here for a long time.”

Ticket restrictions on Juve-Milan

There will be restrictions on several games in April, including Juventus-Milan and Roma-Catania, to avoid crowd trouble.

The committee set up to prevent fan problems in sport in Italy has passed its verdict on the upcoming matches.

The biggest tie to be affected is Juventus-Milan on April 12, when only one ticket per person will be released.

The same is true of rescheduled Serie A tie Juve-Parma and Coppa Italia semi-final Roma-Catania on April 16.

Other games with only one ticket sold per person are Parma-Lazio, Spezia-Ravenna, Pisa-Vicenza, Pisa-Messina, Cesena-Rimini, Napoli-Atalanta, Lazio-Siena, Verona-Lecco and Pro Sesto-Novara.

Parma and Catania fans will be banned from travelling to away games at Empoli and Palermo respectively on the weekend of April 12.

Zanetti suffers thigh relapse

Juventus midfielder Cristiano Zanetti is back on the sidelines after a recurrence of the thigh injury he picked up against Genoa.

The former Inter man was injured at Marassi at the start of the month, but he seemed to have shaken off his problem in record time to return at a crucial juncture of the season.

However, Zanetti reported a pain at the start of training yesterday and was unable to play any part.

The 30-year-old is now set to miss out on this weekend’s trip to Palermo’s Stadio Renzo Barbera and is likely to focus on recovering in time for the Old Lady’s crunch match against Milan on April 12.

Hasan Salihamidzic and Mohamed Sissoko are the likely midfield pair with Mauro Camoranesi and Pavel Nedved on the wings.

Meanwhile, on-loan stopper Guglielmo Stendardo is celebrating passing an exam in administrative law at the University of Rome with flying colours. He is now just three exams away from completing his degree in law.

Juve lead Diego race

Juventus are in pole position to sign Werder Bremen star Diego this summer, according to the player’s father.

The Brazilian international has set the Bundesliga alight this term and is attracting interest from some of Europe’s biggest sides, including Real Madrid and Arsenal.

Juve have made no secret of their desire to add the 23-year-old to their ranks as they look to strengthen for a Scudetto push next term and it seems that they could get their man.

“So much has been said and not all of it is true,” Diego’s father Djair de Cunha told Bild.

“But Bianconeri sporting director Alessio Secco has already been to Bremen and talked to Werder President Klaus Allofs.”

There has been some confusion as Diego initially was quoted as saying that he wanted to join Juventus, but days later allegedly pledged his future to Real Madrid.

While Bremen want to keep hold of their star man, that seems increasingly unlikely as they languish in fifth place in Germany.

“The situation isn’t good enough for Diego,” his father continued. “His dream is to win in Europe.”

Diego is under contract until 2011 and is expected to command a fee of around £14m, which could be a stumbling block for Juventus.

Miccoli will miss Juve

Palermo are hoping to welcome Edison Cavani back for Juventus’ visit on Sunday, but ex-Bianconero Fabrizio Miccoli is still out of action.

The shell-shocked Rosanero are on a slump that has seen the dismissal of Francesco Guidolin and the return of Stefano Colantuono to the helm.

The prospect of facing Juve at the Stadio Renzo Barbera is daunting at the best of times, but the Sicilians have a depleted squad to choose from.

“Miccoli had scans today that showed scar tissue had completely covered the injury to his right calf, but he won’t be ready for Juventus,” club medic Roberto Matracia revealed.

“During this season he has fallen victim to a number of injuries that have hit different areas on his two calf muscles.

“Obviously, we would love to have him out there, but we want to truly solve the problems before we send him back out on the pitch.”

Uruguayan young gun Cavani has also been sidelined, but he may be fit to face the Old Lady.

“Cavani has improved a lot and he has started running around the pitch,” Matracia explained.

“We are doing everything we can to get him ready for Sunday and I’m sure he will do his best as well.”

Should Cavani not be passed fit, Juve target Amauri will probably start as a lone striker.

Matracia concluded by giving the latest on defender Ciro Capuano, who is a long-term absentee.

“Capuano has returned to us and started his rehabilitation yesterday,” he said. “He should be ready for pre-season training camp.”

Gigi ready for Renzo Barbera

Despite fears over his fitness, Juventus goalkeeper Gigi Buffon is set to take to the field against Palermo.

The Azzurri No 1 has been suffering from pain in his lower back and has had to skip several games in 2008.

With Euro 2008 fast approaching, Buffon has revealed that he wants to rest once the Old Lady secure their Champions League place for next term.

It had been rumoured that a worsening of his condition would keep the former Parma man out of Juve’s game in Palermo this weekend, but that doesn’t now appear to be the case.

“He doesn’t have any problems,” club doctor Riccardo Agricola insisted. “The physiotherapy will continue and he will train as well.”

Buffon trained regularly with the rest of his teammates today and reported no pain at any stage.

Chiellini's Scudetto dream

Juventus defender Giorgio Chiellini hasn’t given up hope of the most unlikely of Scudetto triumphs.

The Old Lady beat Inter in the Derby d’Italia a fortnight ago and have closed the gap on the leading duo.

The newly promoted side trail second-placed Roma by seven points with a game in hand and are 11 points from the top.

“We have closed the gap and there could be surprises to come in this race,” Chiellini declared on Sky Sport Italia. “We are close to Roma and not even too far from Inter.

“Our duty from now until the end of the season is to try and win every game and see what happens.

“Our rivals are fighting for first place but I would like to stun them. But I can concede that it won’t be easy, in fact it is nearly impossible.

“But it costs nothing to dream and sometimes they come true.

“For me, things aren’t finished. We have a tough fixture list but it’s the same for them, so we will have to see. Here at Juve we are used to fighting to the bitter end.

“Who am I backing between Roma and Inter? I don’t support either – I am only a Juventus fan.”

The Bianconeri travel to struggling Palermo this weekend and then host Milan in Week 33.

Juve bus killed Bagnaresi

It has been confirmed that a Juventus supporters’ coach caused Parma fan Matteo Bagnaresi’s death.

The 27-year-old was fatally struck by the bus at the Crocetta North service station near Turin.

Bagnaresi was taken to hospital in Asti but he lost his fight for life and it is now certain that the cause of death was the impact of the coach, despite the driver’s insistence that he didn’t see any collision.

The coach’s driver Siro Spolti now faces manslaughter charges in what will be an emotionally charged legal process.

The Stadio Olimpico clash between the Old Lady and the Ducali was postponed until April 16 as a sign of respect and a measure to prevent the possibility of crowd trouble.

The Parma fans are expected to pay their respects to Bagnaresi during this weekend’s Stadio Tardini clash against Lazio.

Bagnaresi is the second fan to die in tragic circumstances this season after Lazio supporter Gabriele Sandri was accidentally shot by a police officer in November.

No suspended players for next game

No Juventus and Palermo players have been suspended by the football authorities; the two teams are to meet at the Barbera in Round 32’s Sunday night game.

It was a given that no Bianconeri would be suspended, as the game against Parma wasn't played. Consequently the list of players who risk suspension if they get another booking also remains the same and still includes Grygera, Nocerino, Palladino and Trezeguet.

No-one has been suspended in the Sicilian team either. There were no disciplinary consequences after their last match - played at the San Paolo in Naples. However, as many as seven Palermo players risk suspension if they get booked one more time.

Juve To Swap Tiago For Maxi?

Juventus and Atletico Madrid could be set to swap Tiago Mendes and Maxi Rodriguez, according to Tuttosport.

Tiago only signed for Juve from Lyon last summer in a €13m deal, however he has been a huge flop in the Italian league.

The Bianconeri tried desperately to offload him during the January transfer window, but were disappointed when the player rejected a move to Tottenham Hotspur.

Atletico Madrid were also linked with a transfer during that time, and many people believe that Tiago turned down Spurs because he was holding out for a move to the Spanish capital.

Tuttosport says that Atletico have now contacted Juventus again about doing a deal this summer.

Representatives from the Spanish Liga club have met with their Juve counterparts for initial talks. During these discussions Juve have asked for Argentine attacking midfielder Maxi Rodriguez.

The 27-year-old, who holds Italian citizenship, is most famous for scoring probably the best goal at World Cup 2006. The flying winger has flair and trickery, something Juve have been sorely missing this season.

Gigi Fit For Palermo Clash

‘Gigi’, as he is affectionately known among the Bianconeri faithful, has missed a number of games this year due to recurring problems in his lower back.

And with Euro 2008 looming in the summer, the Azzurri Number One has announced that he wishes to rest and regain his fitness once Juve secure their place in next season’s Champions League.

Reports in the Italian press suggested that Buffon’s condition had worsened and he would therefore be unavailable for Juve’s upcoming Serie A clash with Sicilian club Palermo.

But the club doctor, Riccardo Agricola, insists that Buffon is recovering sufficiently and is ready for action.

“He doesn’t have any problems,” said Agricola. “The physiotherapy will continue and he will train as well.”

Juve-Parma set for April 16

Tuesday 1 April, 2008

The Juventus-Parma fixture called off on Sunday due to the death of a fan will now be played on April 16.

The Stadio Olimpico game in Turin was postponed after Parma supporter Matteo Bagnaresi was accidentally run over by a bus of Juve fans in a motorway service station on Sunday morning.

The game was called off as a sign of mourning and to avoid potential crowd trouble on the day.

It has now been confirmed that the match will be played on Wednesday April 16 with a 20.00 UK time kick-off.

The two clubs had agreed between themselves and with the Federation not to go ahead with the football at the weekend.

Flamini in Juve agreement

Tuesday 1 April, 2008

Arsenal midfield star Mathieu Flamini will join Juventus this summer, according to French newspaper L’Equipe.

The 24-year-old’s contract at the Emirates Stadium expires at the end of the season and he has refused to sign a new deal, reportedly rejecting a lucrative five-year offer.

The news that Flamini is ready to leave London has prompted a flurry of interest in Italy with Milan, Inter and Juventus all believed to be chasing his signature.

Reports from France suggest that the Marseille youth product has snubbed the Nerazzurri and Rossoneri and already come to a provisional agreement with the Old Lady.

Juve are looking to add to their midfield options with summer signings Tiago Mendes and Sergio Almiron having failed to make their mark.

The Cadetti champions have already added former Liverpool man Mohamed Sissoko to the ranks and could pull off another English swoop.

Should Flamini arrive at the Stadio Olimpico it would surely silence whispers linking Juve with Chelsea’s Frank Lampard.

Flamini has made over 100 appearances for Arsenal since joining the Gunners in 2004

Squad at full ranks again

Juventus are back at full ranks. Indeed Claudio Ranieri this afternoon welcomed back the internationals who had been busy with their national teams in the last few days: Sissoko, who in any case didn't play for Mali against the French B team, alongside Trezeguet, Buffon, Camoranesi and Iaquinta, who all carried out light training.

Grygera had already returned to base yesterday and trained separately, like Jonathan Zebina. Marchionni stayed in the gym, while the rest of the team, after ball possession exercises on a smaller pitch, were divided in two groups and worked alternatively on attacking set-ups and on individual technique, before the usual training match.

Pessotto: I'm Stronger Now

Juventus team manager Gianluca Pessotto has spoke about the morning he tried to take his life following news of the Calciopoli scandal.

The former Bianconeri defender became so affected by the whole issue that he attempted to commit suicide.

However he survived after jumping off a balcony and he is now working for the club he was so loyal to as one of Claudio Ranieri’s assistants on the bench.

“I don’t really remember that morning, I had a rosary in my hand, I felt a sense of emptiness inside and I felt lonely even though I had so many people around me,” said Pessotto.

“However when you come out of suffering you always take something positive with you and my presence here proves this.

“You see everything and you revalue everything and you come out stronger, perhaps with some scars but you are still stronger.

“People’s affection has helped me very much and it’s a beautiful thing, if you give love then you receive love.”

Juventus are currently third in Serie A and they are likely to qualify for the Champions League-a competition which Pessotto won in 1996.

Monday off for the team

After yet another Sunday marred by tragedy (the death of young Parma fan Matteo Bagnaresi on his way to Turin) and the postponement of the match against the team from the Emilia region, the whole squad will have the Monday off. Claudio Ranieri didn't change the schedule planned despite the game not being played and he granted a day of rest to all the Bianconeri.

While Juventus wait for the date of the match against Parma to be set (the Football League should announce it already today at some point), training is scheduled to resume on Tuesday, when the whole squad will gather in Vinovo to begin preparing the next fixture: the game at Palermo to be played on Sunday April the 6th. Compared to the last training session on Saturday, both Zebina and Palladino should be with the squad again, so the Manager will be able to work with all the men at his disposal.

IFFHS: Juventus Best Italian Club Of All-Time

The International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS) have released their fifteen year study a couple days ago in their quest to compile ‘The All-Time Club World Ranking’. To no one’s surprise at the Juventus Offside, our Bianconeri have placed quite high. So high in fact that not only are we the top ranked Italian team of all-time, but we came in second spot as the all-time greatest club in the world. Come on, second? Now I’m no math major but hear me out. You take the derivative B (Baggio) in order to find the maximum value of S (Schillaci) with respect to V (Vialli) and R (Ravanelli), if we then consider the value Z (Zidane) as the ideal player and value D (Del Piero) as the expected level of performance, you then can cross multiply values N (Nedved) with values B (Buffon) and divide by the premium T (Trezeguet) with respect to C (Camoranesi) in order to find Juventus’ utility function for the all-time club world ranking. Sure sounds like first to me.

To give some you background information on the IFFHS in case you’ve never heard of it before it was founded in Leipzig on March 27, 1984, by Dr. Alfredo Poge. It is registered with the Royal Danish State Office. The IFFHS is all about establishing a scientific chronological documentation of world football and determining authentic world records in all areas of football. Despite what many critics of the list may think, the IFFHS claims that it will tolerate no political, military, religious, ethnic or national influence, and in this regard follows FIFA and UNO. The IFFHS also states that its activities are in accordance with the efforts and guidelines of FIFA for the statistical reproduction of the world soccer.

How They Came Up With Their Point System

An All-time Club World Ranking can only be meaningful and useful if it can be determined by taking account all the results of the national championships, the national cup competitions, the club competitions of the six continental confederations. It is therefore only possible to determine an All-time Club World Ranking from January 1st, 1991 – when the Club World Ranking began taking all these details into consideration. The period from 1872 to 1990 can only be asssessed subjectively, mostly by using national and international champions as a guide. It follows that teams placed in the individual competitions cannot be taken into consideration, even if their titles were won easily or in spite of many defeats. It is simply not possible to establish a basis for giving all participating clubs an equal opportunity for the period 1872 to 1990. The IFFHS has therefore has decided, logically, that the All-time Club World Ranking should be determined from January 1st, 1991 using the annual Club World Ranking (the situation at 31st December annually). For this it will take into consideration the “Top 50 Clubs”, annually and award them points from 50 points for the top club down to 1 point for the club in 50th place. Adding the points from the individual years for each club will provide the All-time Club World Ranking. (To Quote their official site)
